I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.

Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.

Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.

I’ll tell  ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

I remember that kegel… stuff….!

I’d get Mike something better.

I think that Mike89 picked April 26 two hours before you, jparrucci.  Is that correct Mike89?

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

Went out this evening for a couple hours. Three of us only caught 4 crappies, small perch and a small bass. Ice is getting a little soft, but still 22" and tight to the shore where we were. Going out later tomorrow, caught more a dusk last time out.

Wow. Still looks like winter up there!

I was in the Alex, area yesterday and most of the lakes were almost ice free.

That's a wrap on my ice season, have to head back to the cities for a while. Fished the last 3 nights and we managed to get a handful of crappies every night. Here's some pictures over the last 3 outings. Cool fog over the lake tonight. Kept a few for a meal.PXL_20250412_005304577.thumb.jpg.ede1b0583ef47e4364da4cfcb2c460f5.jpg

Try contacting Cody Hill.  He’s always on the fish and based in Pelican Rapids, just southeast of Moorhead.   https://www.chillguideservice.com/about-cody-and-chill   Those are your closest lakes.  Otherwise, like mentioned, the Red River is your best bet.  I’ve never fished that area though so I can’t give you any starters.

i'm going to be there for a couple of weeks, will have facilities but I'm more than likely to be doing just  catch and release so don't mind what i catch.

Well, we had our first one in over a year.  I didn't think anyone would be interested in stem cell research so he went away!

Welcome to the FM site. Lot of questions that would be helpful, to help you. How long are you staying? If only a few days and you have the money a local guide is going to be your best bet to get on fish.  Are you just doing catch and release or are you going to have a place to clean and cook fish?   In the Red river your more then likely going to target catfish. Hopefully a few of our members who live out that way can chime in on some cat fishing setups or spots.  Good luck.

I am visiting from the UK to the Moorhead area in the coming weeks and would like to do some fishing while there.  I am trying to find info about what is available to me. I have a variety of gear that i could bring, but am a little restricted by weight limits on the flight. I understand the red river of the north is close by and as the land of 10000 lakes, I am sure there are plenty to fish in.  I appreciate that I will need a local license and I understand I can get this on-line. I would welcome any tips regarding locations and fishing tackle required in this area. I am happy to fish from the shore.  I have also searched for guides in the area but with little success, again and info would be welcome.  Thanks

I started going to Haydays when I moved to Blaine in the mid-80's.  Waldoch was very convenient from Blaine.  I quit going for several years when they moved it to North Branch.  I've gone there the last 3 years and like the new layout better.  Parking and admission has gotten very pricey but the event offers a lot to do and see.  Now that I moved up north, Princeton would probably be further for me than North Branch, but maybe I will give it a try.

I to started out at the haydays back when it was at Waldoch.  I went to the Haydays last fall for the first time in about 6 years, only because my grandsons wanted to see the "C-Boys" some U-tub clowns that trash stuff on U-tube.  Two hours in line to see these clowns!  Not me I sat in a UTV for sale at a stand as they were in line! 😆  I use go every fall to Princeton-Outlaws, Anoka-Rum river runners at the Anoka fairgrounds and once in a while the very small swap at the Brainard fair grounds.  I can't even remember all the stuff I bought over the years for snowmobile, 4 wheelers, and dirtbikes.  🤪
