B mac Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Thinking about cruising up this weekend. Any chance of mobility in a pick-up beyond babblers plowed road? How far north does he plow the road?
jlm Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 No problem at all. It is a little rough and there are some serious drifts but you should be able to get around with four wheel drive. You will be a little rough on the truck though, just a heads up!
Finlander Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Not unless you have a lift kit in your vehickle!
I went off the road once to get around a parked vehickle and didn't get very far in my Silverado!
The snow on the lake has hard compacted drifts that stop you dead in your tracks.
widetrack Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Snowing now. Suppose to get wind gusts to 50mph overnight. Then very cold through the weekend.
ChuckN Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 I just got back from LOW and the snow got mighty hard in a hurry. Few trucks made it out far, mainly big ole' Suburbans.

jlm Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 I was all over out there with a F-150 with only a few hang ups. Once you get your speed up you are ok. Like I said before though, you will be rough on your vehicle. These conditions could change if they are getting more snow. I would recommend bringing a sled just in case! Good luck!
B mac Posted January 20, 2004 Author Posted January 20, 2004 I was looking for some more positive responses! Are there any plowed roads out to 12 or 16???
Reefer Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 There will be a road plowed to 16, but nothing if you want to run to 12. I'm sure he'll wait until this big blow is over, probnably by thur or fri. Gotta keep them 5's comin' in!!
Kingfisher Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 We went out from Bablers today we took our sleds, there were some vehicles off the beaten path, but I would not take my pickup off the plowed road. There are ice chunks under the snow, like already said, your vehicle will take a beating.
Crappie Killer Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Is there a plowed road to Twin Islands? If not, how's the path.

Kingfisher Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Crappie Killer, the last two times I have gone out from Babler(we take our sleds), I haven't seen any plowed road to Twin Islands. There is no path due to the drifting snow, and its getting almost impassable for anything but a tracked vehicle. Its nice to get away from the crowd's, bring a snowmobile if you can.
toddb Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Moved the fish house yesterday and had a heck of a time. Lots of shoveling and very hard on the pickup. Don't expect to go too far off the road without some grief, and that is the truth. BTW, the fishing off Arnesons reef was really good yeserday PM. It almost made up for the hour of shoveling.
later,
toddb
widetrack Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 I wouldn't want to be out there today. It's down right nasty outside.
bturck Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Left Riverbend this morning, total whiteout. The guys int he Bombers were having a terrible time following the stacked road. It Brian almost an hour to get people to their houses, which yesterday was a 25 minute ride. We ran into snow and blowing snow all the way to Bemidji, from there south to St Cloud the weather was good, but windy. Bill
widetrack Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Bill,
It's still blowing like that up here, only now it's -20 temp to boot.
Hope your trip was good.
bturck Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Widetrack: Yes the trip was good, my better half enjoyed her first outing on the Pond. It was an interesting first 100 miles driving back. Once we got south of Bemidji the snow pretty much quit. By the time I got to St Cloud it was blowing dust off of the farm fields, as we have virtually no snow down here at all. Now its wait and count the days until 2/26 and the return trip. Good luck to you up there I'll be watching for any reports you might have. Bill
BobD Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 Bill: We are headed up to Riverbend on the weekend of the 20th,i'll be sure to post and let you know how it goes, great people there and good service as well
Kaz Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Hey Widetrack: Is you first name Doug?? Live in Warroad?? have land on the Angle???? Kaz
widetrack Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Hey Kaz,
My first name is Dave, I live in Roseau. I do have a fish camp at the Angle though. I also have a place on the south point of buffalo.
If the Doug you are talking about is the Muskie man, he is a good friend of mine, and has taught me lots about Muskie fishing.
[This message has been edited by widetrack (edited 01-24-2004).]
Kaz Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Thanks Dave: Well, I was wondering if you were Doug Peterson. One of his cousins works with us and she said she was going to a wedding at the Sportsman's Resort at the end of March. She's an Engdahl from the Angle, and still has relatives from there. Just a shot in the dark. I don't know if I've seen any of Muskieman's posts. I'm down in Florida for the winter, but I did get some hard water fishing before I left just after the holidays... My LOW place is across from the Taxidermy on Bur Oak. You'll have to stop in some time in the spring. Maybe we'll have another get together and fish fry in June like last year. Curt Q, Jeff B, and Old Guide were there and we could do it again...Stay warm....Kaz
