Can anyone recommend some good shore fishing spot in the 30 minute range of the twin cities?

The best spots are almost always spots I find on my own google maps or just driving around. Spots that are public but no one else fishes. I stay away from the common spots that get hit hard. Wind is an important factor look at the wind direction and then look at maps and find spots out of the wind. I can access way more water if I bring my bike in my truck often no one fishes spots because there is no parking biking eliminates that.

Thanks for that info. I was kinda hoping to get some actual location suggestions from people. I see your location is White Bear Lake. I actually fish White Bear Lake quite a bit. On boat and shore. I fish right by that little bridge by Matoska Park all the time.

River fishing, Mississippi, Rum or St. Croix. Walleye, pike, smallmouth bass and even decent panfish

Can't go wrong with Harriet and Bde maka Ska. They have everything in there, and when opener comes around, fishing for game fish should be on fire.

Go on google maps and find all the smaller parks and beaches on the south side of the lake like birch beach and elm beach. Most will be good early season if you just hop around from park to park and give each one an hour or so. Weightless wacky rigs are great or a ned rig if its not to weedy.

I second this advice.  River fishing will offer a better experience and likely have less pressure.

I think you can choose a place to go fishing based on Google maps. Just remember that you need to have a fishing license so you don't have any problems.

By the way, next season, I want to try out a new method of fishing. If anyone did not know, there is now a fishing method that consists of hunting fish as our ancestors did. This method is called bowfishing, and I was even able to find an interesting article about bowfishing lights for muddy water recently. I hope this method will help me learn how to fish at night. So, I hope my reply will be useful for ya.
