Had a flock of swan's fly over the house yesterday, a flock of geese on Friday.

Spring can't be too far off. LOL

Took a scenic yesterday, the lakes don't look very springlike to me, didn't appear to be much melting going on, the liquid water is still buried under a lot of snow, and ice.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, I have had about enough winter. lol

I think we all are after this one. 😒

Ice is breaking up in central MN, swans are moving along and ducks are showing up.  I might’ve missed the river push already as the woodies are coming in numbers now.

Robins for over a week and LOTS of red winged black birds in my woods today.  Sounded like a late summer marsh at sunrise.

Sounds like sound advice.

I climbed into a shoreline maple on Saturday morning. The view from 10ft up wasn't all that much different. :D I trimmed off the branch that needed to go and then jumped back down into the snow. My cell phone popped out of my pocket. After some digging, I found it and zipped it into a pocket. On my walk back to the dock, the upper layer of snow gave in and I went crotch-deep down to the ice. Nature was working against me for trimming the tree I guess.

I also thought that the snowpack was strong enough to bring my ATV across the ice since snowmobiles rode on top just fine. I rode my ATV to the shore, threw it into High gear, and hit the throttle. It made it about 50ft before the tires spun and the ATV sunk down into the slush deep beneath the snow. I then spent an hour hand-winching that thing backwards towards the shore. Plan aborted!

That’s the advice I usually give - I guess I just don’t take it as well!

The oak I dropped today had 78 rings.  Biggun with old farm fence wire or sumthin running through the base.  New $35 chain is toast.

That's a lot of wood! Some of the arborist websites are filled with threads about interesting things that people found inside the trees, usually spikes/nails/fencing but sometimes some interesting things.

YouTubes got some good vids and folks cutting into things on their board mills.

I sawed up a walnut log on my sawmill last fall that had part of a blue tarp in the middle of the tree.

Solid wood all the way around with a bit of a void where the tarp was.

About a 16" diameter tree.

Otherwise, I have sawed out all kinds of items in trees, mainly bullets, nails, and barbed wire, concrete once, that will wreck a $30 blade mighty quick. lol

By the by, had a couple of otters playin on the river bank last evening, so the river ice is melting at least in one spot. lol

There was a neat story of a guy who found an old Winchester in a really old tree.  They think some hunter must have leaned it up against the tree and forgot where he put it or past away some how? 😮

Was it at Winchester Lake, north of Vermilion??? 😁
