Welder wire

I purchased a 170 amp wire feed Welder, I am using a 12/3 cord approximately 25 ft long as power on 220 20 amp breaker. Welder requirements are 20 amp input. Question is should I be using heavier cord?

Yes. I run a 8/3 for my Hobart. That 10/3 is ok if your only doing tacks or running low amps for short runs. It will heat up if your running beads.

Yah, I’d go heavier too.  12/3 seems way too light.

that lite of extension cord will give line drop. You should at least have 10/3.
