Question

I have a 2000-2001 strikemaster auger. I need to replace shaft. Will an 8 inch handle a 9 inch if I make the switch? Is it to hard on the auger to make this switch?

Not sure about Strikemaster and that age but in Jiffy models you can an 8 or 9 inch on the same high gear transmission.    On the low gear transmission you can also run the 9 but it’s required for the 10 inch auger.

To me that suggests you might want to check SM to see if they offered different gear transmissions for 8 and 10 inch models.  BUT I don’t ever recall anyone mentioning that when choosing the size of their bit.  It seemed to always be buy the powerhead and choose whatever size  bit you want to put on it.

I had a older model then that. I would switch from 8" to 10" for the wheel house. Did that for many years

now I use it as a post hole digger.
