There have not been a ton of fishing reports. What are you all up to right now?

With this nice weather, I am hoping to take at least one more trip up to the lake in early November. Then I can do my end-of-season boat maintenance and then get snowmobiles prepped for the winter.

Are people out hunting right now, taking hikes, making soup, burying nuts for winter....???

I got a 3 day weekend (very rare); so today after my annual physical I spent the afternoon cutting Chinese Elms in the CRP. Was great temperature for it. Probably put boat away this weekend as most landings have docks pulled. Just don’t feel like battling the loading process. Do some deer scouting and maybe clean up the inlaws lawn at the lake. Will try to get the dog in the grass for a rooster also.

My brother and dad were on Rice lake by Eden Valley Tuesday. They got one 23 inch walleye and a northern. All returned for the next angler.

If I had more time I’d fish between hunting outings but I have to be thankful to have any hunting time right now.  And believe me I slip it in whenever I can.  November will probably be better on that front but I need to keep working when there’s work to do being I’m seasonal now.

Granddaughters birthday today and then some home chores before getting back to work on Sunday till the job is done.

With the calendar migrating divers moving through the state right now I sure feel the urge to be out there!  I guess I’ll have to wait until the late season migration but it could be good!

Repairing our house in Blaine for sale in the next 2 years so we can move up north.  Duck hunting, fall fishing, and sighting rifles in next week.  Winterizing our place in Soudan also.  Been a great fall for these projects.

Wife just retired. I retire next May. Hope to follow you north before the next round of riots and lotting in Brooklyn Center! 👍

I retired 2½ years ago.  My wife finally agreed to move up north after she retires the end of 2021.  When she retires there is nothing that would keep us in the cities.  Blaine has been very peaceful over these turbulent times, but I have a lot of buckshot for my three 12ga shotguns just to be safe.  Anywhere from Barnum to Soudan would be fine for us (easy day trip to Vermilion).  Would go as far west as Grand Rapids.  Would love to live on Vermilion but the prices are just too high now.  Best of luck to you.

My wife is from Brainerd and has a lot of relatives up there. More then likely it would be Baxter or above Brainerd.

Yeah, but they an't got no, Cub, Kohls, Walmart, Fleet Farm, Menards, Home Depot, big hospital and a bunch of clinics.

And if I go first I'm not leaving my wife to live out in the sticks by herself with no family around..................So. 😐

Cuyuna in Crosby and Riverwood in Aitkin are two decent hospitals.  Don’t let the size of St. Joe’s/Essentia fool ya. 😉

Otherwise…. There’s not much help for the other.  People from all over drive in for the big box stores in Brainerd/Baxter.

i think Leech is using his wife as a an excuse not to actually live out in the sticks in fear of meeting up with bigfoot!!!!!!!!!!🤣🤣🤭

I have been gearing up getting ready to walk again after 10 weeks!  I have been lucky enough to get out fishing a few times and can't wait to get out in the deer stand...bad thing is I have a basketball tournament for my 4th grade son on opening weekend of deer season and I am the coach!  Oh well I have used enough patience getting this far, what are another few days!  Otherwise not much for me to do...

Well, actually going on family life expectancy.  Not many man on my dad's side made it past their late 60's.  On the other hand my wife's side most lived to late 80's into 90's.  So again, I really don't want to leave me wife in an area she is unfamiliar with or know anyone.  If she should pass away before me for some unknown reason.  Yes, they will find me dead in a cabin in the woods.

I went fishing for the final time this season yesterday.  It was not very good.  Its the latest I've fished in a season for many years though because its been so warm out.

I decided not to duck hunt again this season based on the lack of success I've had in recent years.  By the reports I've heard locally, I made the right decision.

Between a full time job, yard work, going to the gym, and being a responsible Father/Husband, I don't get as much time to do what I want to anymore.  That's just the reality of it.  Sometimes I regret the decisions I've made on that, but now I'm stuck with it and its a necessary evil.  Retirement is still 20+ years away.  But I did go fishing 31 times this past season and I'm taking the whole week off to deer hunt.  After deer hunting I'll be pheasant hunting until the end of the year.

I'm grateful for my health and my mental ability that allow me to continue to do the things I enjoy, albeit not as much as I used to.

I try to post on here when I have successful days of fishing or hunting.  Sometimes it seems like the only fishing updates for weeks on end come from Vermilion.

🤔 so gimruis, I read this as you regret getting married and having kids???

I took Gimruis to mean that he regrets working full time....me too! 🤣

On my next lake trip, I am hoping to figure out where the mice are getting into my sauna. I also am planning to fish at least one solid day on Vermilion this fall. I don't seem to have great luck this late but I feel compelled to make the effort when the opportunity arises.

Married, no.  The second part I could go without.  I'm definitely more of a dog person.

I think a lot of guys have similar feelings as I do about their family decisions, they just don't have the balls to admit it.  I do.

Regardless, its the path that I chose at the time and now I have to live with it.  There's no one else to blame except myself.

Selfish?  Perhaps.  I speak the truth though.
