What a year it has been with this drought. The Mighty Mississippi isn't so mighty anymore but doesn't stop the smallmouth from eating. Got out for a nice evening float after work and found a few quality Bronzebacks.

I usually float the rum river in this manner for brown bass but its so shallow this summer I can't get in there.  I heard they shut off the power plant at the St Cloud for the first time since 1988 because its so low.

A couple things I noticed in the video.  Is your net attached to a tether?  It fell over board a couple times and I thought it was going to sink or float away.

If I might suggest something.  Use that topwater with a bait caster instead of a spinning setup.  You will be way more accurate and you won't have any loose line.  Its far more efficient.

20 and 19 inchers in one evening is real good.  They don't get much bigger than that in a river.  That was a legit double with only having one line out!  May be the first time anyone has ever done that.

@gimruis Rum river is another good smallie river. I have fished that few times before with success. Yes, my net is tied to my kayak lol. I had couple other people ask the same thing. You pick up a few good tips over the years ;) and I know I should be using a bait caster for the topwater but when I'm in my kayak I'm no good at it lol,  way more accurate with the spinning.  I'll just need to give a try few more times and get it dialed in. Think I may do that. It was a good evening. like you said, those bass are on the top end of the scale and what a legit double for one rod. Thanks for the comment. Take care and good luck next time your out!

When I’m in the yak, my baitcasters usually stay in the shed also.  Took one with me today and reminded myself why it stays home.  It was fine of course when I got out and waded.

My net has, well had, a lanyard attached to the yak until I snapped it off a couple weeks ago.  But it is the designated yak net like yours probably is.

Good fishing and good vid. ?
