Eye can see it for eyes. This is a panfish thread you two.    ?I suppose a bait cast would be nice for spin stop. That’s a good thing.

I tried those cheesy little HT level wind reels before for panfish if that helps. ?

I don’t see myself ever going back to spinning for panfish thru the ice. Love the inlines.

Back in the late 90s I used a Shimano Curado 100 as my walleye jigging reel. This was back before anybody was concerned about line spin and such... It worked pretty darn good, desipie using a ice rod upside down...and fishing the spine of my rod vs. the belly...but didn't know anything about that back then either, so it didn't really matter ?   Hmmmmm, might have to look into a 50 size casting, and build a rod for it?

That's exactly how it works.  I used the Chronarch 50mg and still am using it to this day.  Drag on bait casting reels can be set way lighter than a lot of spinning reels at that time.  Plus the Chronarch 50mg was lighter than most ultralight spinning reels too at that time.  Of course it was on a spinning rod and still is on a spinning rod - right there in my avatar.  I've been catching smelt to catfish on that light setup since then.  I will never miss the pulsating effect from a spinning reel set up.  I still run spinning reels as since that's how I started.  The casting reel is cheating on so many levels even though I will put up with the slower fall rate or line pulling.

But I ran Gamma ESP ice line at 2# on that casting reel.  LOL.  Great times back then.  Switched to ASSO Micron3 in 3# on it for a while.  Started to catch catfish that were pushing 24" in length and had a few line breaks at the hole.  Switched to ASSO Micron3 in 4# after that.

At that time this the only ultralight reel was the Pflueger President 20 with was a 5.9 oz. reel listed equal to the Chronarch 50mg was listed something as 5.9 oz. in weight.  Everything else was like in the 7 oz or higher range.  The Pflueger President 20 reel wasn't that refined at that time either.  I was using a lighter and better set up for panfishing than most.  Still using it currently too.

I can jig and drop the lure inch by inch.  I can do the same raising my lure inch by inch, just by thumbing the spool forward or backwards.  And I never had to raise or lower my arm nor open the bail.  It's too convenient, it's cheating. Shhhhh.

A Chronarch 50 seems like an awful lot of reel for pan fishing and 2, 3, or 4 lb test.  Not saying one shouldn’t go that route if they wanted too but I would’ve never considered it.

Jiggle stick and 6 pound line and a bobber is where I got my start on panfish. Lol. Drill a hole and stare at that bobber all day and wiggle it a bit at times. Always wondered why there were so many holes in some areas. Then started fishing with some guys on here and they drilled and moved from hole to hole. What a concept! Lol.

3-3 1/2 arm lengths Royce!  Change it up! ?

The little Black and Tan foam bobbers you could squeeze to break the ice off where a big deal at one time.  And who moved a lot with a spoon auger???

Really. Never had a spoon auger. Started with a mora in 1976 when I was 22. Never really ice fished before that.

Got my grandpa's old spoon auger, and his spear hanging in my man cave. Hoping one day it's worth antique prices. An old jiggle stick is going to get hung there to.

I’m 53 and been fishing for 50 years. ?

My first fishing memory (at 3) was with my father and brother bank fishing the Mississippi at a family members property on a hot summer day.  I was given a cane pole while they were using casting poles.  I got hot and frustrated so I went up the bank and sat in the shade.  The cane pole started jerking around so one em grabbed it before I could get to it and dragged in a sheepshead.  I was excited and said “I caught a fish!”  Dad said, No you didn’t, you quit fishing.”  Life lesson #1.

I remember that day better ‘n most spankings I got growing up.  Most.... ???

We stood on buckets and double teamed augers to get holes drilled.
