Roseville Ice Fishing tomorrow

Jughead

Recommended Posts

Good day everyone and I hope you had a great holiday.

I am taking my brother and nephew fishing tomorrow, Sunday 12/27. They have never fished winter time so it's more for the experience, we don't have to slay fish (would be nice though).

Challenge is I have to stay around the Roseville/Maplewood/White Bear area because time is limited. I haven't seen any ice reports for lakes like Johanna, Josephine, maybe even White Bear or Bald Eagle.

Has anyone been on or know what this state of the ice for these lakes? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Jug

Hopefully someone with firsthand knowledge of that area will chime in.  The only thing I can tell you is I’d be surprised if there were more than a few inches of ice on those lakes if not still having some open spots.  Some scouting is in order I would think.

I was on two lakes today in central MN that I expected to see 10-12 inches on and I got 8 on one and 5 on the other.

Thank you. I feel the same way- Centerville before the blizzard was 5" tops and that was up to 100 yards. I will take a look myself if needed but I do hope that someone chimes in. Thanks for responding!

Centerville was pretty good the other day as far as fishing. Bald eagle has been kinda slow lately its getting a lot of pressure if you can find the spots away from the crowd that is how I have been catching fish.

Thanks very much for the updates!

I did get on Johanna yesterday. Within 75 yards from the launch it was 6" ice, 3 clear and 3 milky white.

I CAUTION you about trying to walk further south towards the college. Two guys were walking back because they only encountered 2-3" and were pretty shaken up. There were about 5-6 groups along the north side.

It was extremely slow, and I heard that from everyone out there. My nephew got a perch, and we were happy to get it.

Good luck!
