I live near a stretch of Shingle Creek where I spot carp throughout the summer, but where I’ve never seen a single fish in winter.

Until today, that is. They are stacked thick there today.

Would it be crazy to try and get them to bite this time of year? Have any of you ever fished them in open water during ice season?

It worked! Today, the carp were under thin ice so I had to throw some heavy logs into the school to crack the ice and stir up the fish to open a hole and drop a bait in. I only got one and I think it was an accidental fish because it was hooked under the jaw, a couple inches from the mouth. Weighed 6.93lbs

had to slide it across the ice into the opening to release.
