I’m not even sure if I’m in the right page I just signed up but my question is I just purchased a boat from a private seller went to his home the boat fired up I purchased the boat, the day before I brought it out which was about a week and a half later it fired up brought it to the lake the next day it fired up boated around for about 25 minutes found a spot to fish It was off for about an hour or so went to start it back up and it would not fire back up had to be towed off the lake so the moral of the story is there anyway I can go back and get my money legally without no trouble or what is my next step if the seller does not want to give the money back?

Why wouldn't it start? Did it turn over or not? Battery good and leads clean and tight?

Flooded?   Need more info.    But no, probably you can't get a refund.   If you wanted some sort of warranty  then should have bought from a dealer or negotiated with the seller.

There are lots of details missing in your post.

Did the seller "fire it up" dry? For how long? Did you "fire it up" dry? For how long?

Is it a 2- stroke or 4-stroke? If it's a 2-stroke, is it oil injected?

Is there gas in the tank? Is it fresh gas? Is the gas hose connected?

Is it a carbureted engine or fuel injected?

Engines need fuel, air and spark to run. Check for all three.

Plenty of battery engine turned over just didn’t fire up I did notice gas and oil in the water which I found out later was coming from the prop area I put new plugs in and even a new gas holes in ball because it was leaking a little bit and I didn’t know if there was a gas pressure issue because of it so I turned it over again plenty of battery but did not fire up I took the spark plugs out none of them had any gas or even smelled like gas on them I checked and seen if there was spark with a screwdriver and there was no spark So as far as I can tell it’s not getting gas to the plugs in the plugs don’t even have spark anyways

I forgot to add the engine is a 1994 125 ELPTO Mercury Mariner

No the seller and I both had a hose hooked up to the engine in the water did run through the engine and out and it’s a two-stroke And yes it’s oil injected it has it’s own reservoir Has a half tank of gas from last year he said he stabilized it over the winter End it has four carburetors and I did takeoff the air cover when I tried to start it and gas did leak out of all four carburetors

I was going to say the same thing. If it has happened to you you will always remember to check that first.

125 from 1994 is basically what I had for a number of years.   Mine was a 98 115.   Choke, prime, whatever.  after an hour, cold start routine.

I had a 90 horse Mariner from that era. The kill switch wouldn't look like it was tripped but had moved just a fraction that was enough to keep the engine from starting.

I have fell victim to the kill switch before!  Father inlaw n I were in a tournament and the boat we were using had just been repaired due to engine issue.  Well after some panic checks I happened to realize the kill switch was flipped somehow!  Darn thing!!
