Good Fishing Spots On The MN River Near Carver

Recommended Posts

I live in Carver, MN, as I mentioned in a previous post. I am looking for good spots on the MN River to fish. Not looking for catfish per-say, but other types of game fish. Any good spots in like Chaska, Carver, Shakopee, etc. I checked out this spot off 41 near Chaska that's technically in Scott County called Gifford lake, but I don't know how to get to it when the river is still pretty high. I've also heard of something called Winkel Park in Chaska, right on the river, and the reviews say it's good for fishing, and there was a photo posted on a review there about 2 months ago where I guy was holding a really small sturgeon. I've heard the MN River can be a good place for fishing for white bass, I just don't know where to really start. Thanks for any tips!

It will be kind of hard until the water goes down. But look at your maps, especially the Wildlife Refuge. Most places where there is an outside bend there is a deeper hole. When the water is down, especially a little later in the Fall, cast a jig and minnow or jig and plastic out into the current and then jig it back as the current sweeps it down. We have caught lots of Fall walleyes from shore not to mention an occasional huge carp. Catfish are a whole different story. You need to find current breaks which is a little hard from shore, but not impossible.
