Merc 150 4 Stroke Trim Issue

Question

Posted

I have a 2015 Merc 150 4 Stroke. When I'm not running or in neutral I can trim up and down. When I'm idling I can trim up and down. When I hit it I can trim up but not down. When I put it back in neutral I have to trim up a little and then the down works again. I'm guessing trim sensor or trim relay. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rich

Welcome to the forum.

Of course the first and cheapest thing to check is the fluid level. Trim it all the way up before you check the level so it's not under pressure.

It sounds like you are only having issues with 'down' occasionally. You can easily check relays by swapping them with each other, 'up' relay would go in the 'down' relay spot etc., If you have issues with 'up' after that, it's a bad relay. I recommend replacing both. If nothing changes, then it's something else. Could be a loose/weak connection or a faulty pump. Possibly something in the control box that is hitting the wires to the switch when the handle is pushed forward. I've seen all of the above problems more than once. Remove prop and run on muffs to do voltage testing, starting at the pump to pinpoint the location of the problem. Or bring it to your local dealer and bring a case of beer if you want it done fast.
