Has anyone ever used helical piers (DBS company) as was suggested to me for stabilization?

Safe Basements used 8 push piers to lift the front of our Blaine home 1" to level/stabilize it.  They had to go down 80 feet to hit ledge rock.

They also use helical piers and said they would recommend those to level our garage if we decide to do that also.  Being on rocky ground like you are, they shouldn't have to go very deep to hit solid base.  Think helical piers would work fine.

I don't think they'll be able to screw those things to the ground without using dynamite first.?

I would explore helical footings.  Why not? Below is a company I’ve worked with. Not sure if they work up north or if they know someone that does? They are knowledgeable, a phone call should do er’ and see what you can find out. Good luck!

Thanks Oohfer, I did meet with DBS out of Duluth for their helical piers. Excellent solution, however rather pricey ($25K) and not sure how we would hide or make more pleasant looking as they would need to tie directly to the cabin, sort of "stilt-like" looking. We are going to get a couple more quotes on simply (not the best term probably) have new footings put in all the way to the ledge rock.

Thanks again, this forum is VERY helpful. Lots of good information on the Lake Vermilion owners Facebook page too!

I am happy that you are getting some good recommendations, but sad about what it will cost you to get it fixed.

Anyone ever work with McGregor House Movers out of Mountain Iron for footing challenges? It sounds as though raising the cabin, putting 3 x 3' footings down to the ledge rock will fix our challenge.
