I don't think the focus right now is on eliminating CWD in MN. They are trying to contain it in the areas it's been found so it doesn't spread further & faster. To quarantine it as much as possible, if you will.

Sure, but deer from all different areas interact with each other and travel some pretty considerable distances, whether the population is very high or very low, so this makes very little sense as well. For instance, when deer yard up during the winter they can travel from as far a 15 miles away. Killing as many deer as possible will not keep the few deer that are left in the CWD area and the ones that are outside the CWD area from traveling  and being the social animals that deer are.

Not all deer in CWD Zones have CWD. If they did, than it would have been handed off like a CWD baton from county to county and would take what, maybe 1 year to cover the entire state of MN.

 

It's simple math. Fewer deer in an infected zone have a lower probability of passing it along.
