Jiffy Propane Auger For Sale. Leaks Lots Of Oil!!!!

I regretfully own a Jiffy Pro4 lite propane auger that has leaked oil since it was brand new. Their warranty department all but laughed at me when I asked for a solution...said it was "OPERATOR ERROR". Apparently when they designed this unit they forgot to put an internal oil seal to keep oil from puking out of the air cleaner when it is used and stored. The last time out it leaked so much it looked like a crime scene. Now I drain the oil before taking it anywhere and fill it up right before use and then put a garbage bag over it to transport home. At first they said I’m storing it wrong, then I’m adding too much oil, then back to I’m storing it wrong, and FINALLY THEY ASKED ME TO REMOVE THE VALVE COVER TO SEE IF AN INTERNAL SEAL WAS MISSING!! When I fill it (Jiffy 3oz oil bottle) it leaks by the second hole i drill and leaves a trail on the ice...OIL LEAKING INTO THE LAKE SHOULD CONCERN THEM. I asked them to provide me the seal and valve cover gasket free and the answer was NO! This is a design flaw or factory mistake they are aware of but not willing to correct. P.S. I also hear their electric auger is having issues. At this point I'm going electric but it would be nice to recover some of my loss. I have a friend who offered me $200.00 but I don't think he understands the extent of the leak.

I echo your sediments, Jiffy's suck balls. Anytime I am out fishing and someone shows up nearby with a jiffy I will consider moving and sometimes will move. In the event they are able to actually start it, its about 5 times louder than any other gas power auger ever made but cuts through ice about 5 times slower, worst of both worlds.

I would buy a dull used hand auger or heck I would probably even give up on ice fishing altogether, long before I would buy a jiffy. A friend of mine I used to fish with owns a jiffy, I have since stopped fishing with him and our friendship is touch and go! Am I being dramatic, no I don't believe I am.

Good friend of mine has a Jiffy Pro-4 propane and he hasn't had any issues in approximately 4 years now. He wouldn't buy one again, but it's worked well

24 year old 8 inch Jiffy White Lighting still going strong. I've change plugs, blades (easy to sharpen with a file), auger and repaired a broken throttle linkage with a piece of wire. All my fishing buddies say what a good auger it has been.

I got mine cuz i drive a suburban and didn't want the gas smell. I know this thing could be fixed but Jiffy 's customer service really got me mad for the $500 I spent. A true factory defect and they had no interest in making it right but that's pretty common these days with so much outsourcing. On a positive note I can say St Croix rods go above and beyond to help out on a $120 fishing pole. My rod tip broke out of warranty landing a 2 lb wally without a net and the replaced it free when they could have easily denied the claim. I should post that story sometime since it's so easy to go negative in this digital world hiding behind the screen. As for Jiffy doubt I can say something positive...I know they have made tons of good 2cycle units over the decades but for me the purchase was a bad experience. The problem is the propane auger is a 4 cycle and the crankcase oil is getting to the carb where the 2 cycle can't have the same issues. I'm guessing they figured it out as production went on but at least attempt to take care of a customer. Even a high volume bait shop I asked about trading it in said NO...but they would take an eskimo propane unit on trade any day.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
