Bass fishing

Recommended Posts

Hi, im new here and recently found this forums, which seems really helpful! I'm looking for places that I can shore fish for bass, I've been river fishing the Mississippi and sauk river for smallies, but I want to try catching some largemouths. I have no boat or anything to get out onto the water, so I was wondering if there are any good lakes/places that I can shore fish from for largemouth bass. Today I tried to go exploring and tried the spunk lakes, and two river lakes, because those have public access for boat launching, but its not really good for shore fishing. I have been trying out lakes with public access but most of those only have public access for boat launching and not really shore lines to fish for bass. I am also kind of new to fishing, so I don't know if you are allowed to fish on lakes with no public access, like can I park on the road and fish the lake, etc? Much would be appreciated!

Welcome to the site! I am unsure of shore fishing options, but lakes to try within 30 minutes sf St.Cloud might include Pleasant, Grand, Pearl, Carnelian, Achman, Upper Spunk, Little Rock,  and the Sauk River Chain of Lakes.

In my opinion, if you are shore fishing, the rivers you have been fishing are second to none in the area. The smallmouth bass get big and fight hard around here, especially tough river fish that spend their entire lives fighting current. I have had some rare days on the river where my canoe boated 75+ bass in a single outing. If you are interested in learning more shore spots on both the Sauk River and Mississippi River, feel free to PM me.

welcome to the site @MinnowBuckets (Taylor) and @EjYung!  yes indeed the sippi is a lot of fun for small jaws. Couple from this morning. Stick baits were the ticket again this morning. Started out slow but was great when they decided to chomp down.

Thanks and nice fish! I’ve been lurking this page for years but realized I might have a thing or two to contribute, so I try and get more involved in the discussions that focus on the St. Cloud area, especially the rivers. These forums are rich with information if a person would take the time to do a little homework.

Welcome to Fm.... as ithers have saud, the local rivers provide some of the best fishing around. As summer progersses, downstream from the st cloud dam has plentiful shore fishing, as well as wading opportunities for smallmouth, catfish and walleyes.

That would be fun @eyeguy 54. I’d try my hardest to keep us upright. ? Usually around July I start making more float trips and have a lot of fun throwing prop baits!

There are lots of largemouth bass un the Sauk River near Cold Spring.  There are some county and city parks that will give you more shore access than the boat launches will give you.  Especially if you go wading.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!

I agree on the choices.   I didn't mean to say that a battery auger was better or greener or whatever.  I could care less about that.   It just seems that "most" ice anglers have made a switch to a battery auger in recent years.  That's all I was saying.  I know about a dozen people who regularly ice fish and they all have battery augers now.  I bet if you conducted a survey of all ice anglers, the majority would answer that they use a battery powered auger.

Best weed eater I've ever run with great longevity is Echo, I'd check them out

Hey government,  Just give us choices. I don’t care what people use as long as as it works for you. I’m needing a new weed eater. Plan on a Stihl FS 40 easy start. I’m done with the cheaper brands. Just don’t last long enough.  Probably true with the Stormy Daniels of the world as well. Cheaper don’t last long enough 🤭

If you turn on a movie they survive the 20min ride just fine. After many controlled experiments, I've found that they survive much better if you show "Finding Nemo" instead of "Jaws."
