Fly Tying Group?

      Is there a group of fly tyers that gets together for fly tying sessions in the Fairmont area? Years ago (early 1990's)  I was part of a group that met once a month to talk fly fishing, fly tying and pass along tips and advice.

The only tying groups I know are here in the Twin Cities, and there are quite a few that gather during the winter months.  I'm not sure of any in the SW near you.

      I wonder what it would take to start one. Does anyone have any experience doing sometning like this?

Was part of one.... Your only obstacle will be securing a location. See what kind of interest is out there, treat it seriously or you won't retain anyone. Sporting goods stores are best for location if they have a meeting room; you can help them draw customers, at the same time generating new club members. You will at the very least, introduce others to your art. 

Not only is it a way to learn and share ideas, it ends up being the start of some great friendships with those that share the same passions.

      Thanks for the info. I was in a group back in Indiana over 35 years ago. Fortunatly we met at our local conservation club and a lot of the guys were old. Of course, when you're in your early 20's, everybody is old. I learned a lot from those guys. I just may have to do a little research to see if there is any local interest.
