Update to this weeks fishing report. The fish ARE moving out from shore so reefs have been hot all week. Today I put the down riggers on and trolled at random for well over 15 miles out in the deep water. It was a very nice day to roam the basin. Even with only one line and one crankbait the fish still found it. All total I caught about 15 fish of which 1 was a slot, 4 were good solid keepers and the rest were small saugers. I shot some video of this very pleasant day on Lake of the Woods. Once the fish begin to pile up out in "no mans land" it is game on every day weather allows.
If you haven't fished this way and want to find out what downrigging in a small boat is all about. Message me on the NCOR FB page and book a fun, educational day with Curt's NCOR Guide Service.

How fast do you usually troll when down rigging?

Any where from 2.7 to 3.3 is where i usually run.  I really like 2mph because that is the speed to pull lead core or long line crank baits but it doesn't seem to get going till you go a little faster. You can go about as fast as you like but the faster you go the more trouble you have with tangles and baits blowing out.....I am NOT the last word on trolling speeds, any one else have good info to share?

I usually run 2.2 -2.5.  Seems to work just fine and have done it for years.  I've tried faster speeds but slower has usually been better.  I like to run a large zig zag pattern every so often instead of just straight.  When you make a turn those outside baits will speed up and inside will slow down.  This can trigger bites from either side.  If your always getting hits on one side or the other,  then adjust to that speed.  Leaving in the morning, hopefully be dropping balls around noon.
