Fishing Report from Flag Island Resort, Lake of the Woods, NW Angle 6/21/17

With several windy days and a mayfly hatch the water has become dirty and turbid making fishing a little on the tougher side. Anglers still managed to catch several nice fish including some beautiful muskies.

On the Mn side the walleye, sauger and smallmouth bite has been good. Walleyes continue to be caught on the Flag Island Flats in 5-7 feet on the mud. Reefs and rock bars continue to produce in about 24 feet. The shallows with rocks have been best for smallmouth. Locations with mud, rock piles, reefs, bars and points has been best for the walleye and sauger bite. For tackle choices, spinners with crawlers and 3/8 oz jigs with minnows has been best for walleyes. Top water raps or a jig with a leech has been best for smallies. The water temp is between 68 and 70 degrees.

Over in Ontario, the walleye, sauger, smallmouth, perch and muskies have been plentiful. Walleyes and saugers are located on rocks reefs and humps in 15-26 feet. Areas with current, areas adjacent to reefs and inside turns have been the most successful. Smallmouth are found in 3-5 feet on rocks. For tackle, 3/8 oz jigs in gold, pink or orange with minnows or spinners with crawlers have been best as well as crankbaits and x raps. Top water and spinner baits for smallies.

Until next week, good luck fishing!
