6/12/17 Fishing Report from Flag Island Resort, Lake of the Woods Northwest Angle

With some hot days, a few storms and winds fishing has stayed steady. We have seen a few beautiful trophy sized fish that were caught and released over the last few days including both 29.5” and 30 ¼ inch walleyes. Anglers are reporting many slot sized fish being caught as well as a lot of “good eaters”. The May Fly hatch has started in the shallow water bringing the fish in to feed.

On the MN side the walleye, sauger and pike bite has been good. The Flag Island Flats are still producing in the 5-7 foot depths and 12-17 feet on sand bars and mid lake reefs. The west bar of Little Oak has been producing as well and the fish are beginning to disperse to mid lake humps and reefs. Spinners and bottom bouncers with crawlers seem to the ticket; colors being gold and gold and purple. The water temp is 65-67 degrees. The Muskies have finished up spawning and the season opens Saturday June 17th, less than a week away!

Over in Ontario, the Walleyes are feeding on May Flies and Larvae in the mud as well. We are finding the fish in the mud near rock points and reefs. The magic depths have been between 20 and 28 feet. The water temp is around 63 degrees. The bass have come up into the beds and spawned.

Until next week, good luck fishing!
