Strawberry Blonde Hellcats/Gerhart Block

Hello everyone! I'm wondering if you have seen or heard about Strawberry Blonde Hellcats. I came to hear about these lures last year working on Bigstone Lake in Ortonville, Mn. The story I heard was about the legendary fisherman Gerhart Block and how he used and also painted Hellcats to consistently reel in big fish. I seen there was a similar post in 2006, but not much info was given. Anyone have a pic of the original lure or one painted by block. I just bought a hellcat at an antique store. I'll post the pic of it, and hopefully some of you can give me some insight or some anecdotes.

CastingCrankBaits, Welcome to the forum.

Looks like you have something there not many have heard of?  Let us know if you try out the lure how it worked. It may be time to break out the paint set and brushes!  :)

Looks like a plastic replica of a Rapala.  Places like Jann's Netcraft used to, and still do, sell plastic and wood lure bodies for folks to put hooks on and paint.    (they also sell them painted)

My Dad had picked up some Hellcats many years ago after hearing they were a hot walleye bait.  I'm sure I still have them in in his old tackle box in the shed.

I'll see if I can't dig one out and post a pic.

Hi. This lure was my grandfathers (Mr. Walleye) Gerhardt Block. I do have a few hell cats in my grandpas old tackle box he gave to me when he passed away. Anyone interested in knowing more. Please email me at the email address... [email protected]
