Who's going out and where?  With the early ice out I think there will be fish out on the lake but I just have a hard time not stopping by the green buoy in 4-mile bay.  Kind of an opener ritual.

We're going to start off shallow sand, move to mid-depth rocks/ruble, then on to deeper rocks.  In my area, most will be going to deeper water close to rocks and shore.  I am looking forward to using the large creek chubs that I have been trapping over the past week or so.

Only fishing Saturday since Sunday is Mother's day and I still have a Mother to honor.

Good luck to everyone.  The weather looks to be pleasant and fishable.

We're going to Morris Point for the whole week as usual. Fish 'em where we find 'em.

Looks like the weather will be nice.  I agree that 4 mile bay will be key. Both gaps should be biting fish filled.  I will fish Long Point area in deep water. Gonna have a couple of kids along to help jig up first of the season Walleyes.  Good Luck everyone!

Ray - Looking at the forecast, wind will be an issue on Sunday out of the east 15 mph with gusts to 25, 30% chance of rain and thunder starting late morning to sunset.  Do not be surprised if the wind is more or less, as this is only the forecast.

I'm bummed, I have to wait until Thursday...to add insult, I have a new to me 1997 Lund Tyee 1950 that I'm itching to try out...quite the upgrade from my 1985 Lund Alaskan tiller! Anyways if I was going, I'd head straight to the lake and start in about 12 feet off of Pine and work my way pout from there. Good luck guys and be safe, going to be a lot of boats out there!

Hoey, Thanks for info might have to rethink my ink and fish lake on Saturday and the river on Sunday. No matter what it will be good just to be up there! I will be interested to hear how those large creek chubs worked. Again good luck to all.

Sitting at work wondering why I haven't left for the lake yet.  Hard to get the ambition to do anything.

Heading up mid-day to tidy up the cabin. We will slide out thru the washout in the morning and see what conditions are and go from there.

Good luck to all

All was going well until Saturday morning.

We had them in the bait bucket tied to the dock in the harbor and they were doing great.  We checked them late Friday night and all was well.

My wife went to pick them up Saturday morning and had to do a double take as all the bait was gone.  Bummer.

We were able to get some bait and go out after all.  I just kept thinking, "who would steal our bait?"

We talked to the guide WingNut when we returned on Saturday afternoon and he indicated there are two otters in the harbor. He indicated they use their left elbow to hold open the lid and use their right paw to scoop up the minnows.

We were somewhat relieved that they were not taken someone else.

Getting ready for the next trip.  Already have 2 dozen, but none of the "rainbow" type chubs.

Twice I have had my minnow bucket cleaned out in that harbor. Here I thought I must need a new minnow bucket!

It happens all the time in the fall in the river.  Everyone has shiners hanging from their boats.

The shaft is from one of those window cleaning signs they put at the neighborhood corner.  The one end is peen'd flat so the otter has nothing to grab.  The holes are tight to the shaft to further discourage the critters.  The hitch pin has been replaced with a key ring to further secure the shaft.  Total $ investment is 0.  Time 15 minutes or so.

It is working.  There were a lot of long faces Friday and Saturday morning at the harbor as many folks had been robbed of their bait overnight by the otters.
