Winnie yesterday 1-21

Recommended Posts

Wow was it a foggy son of a gun yesterday. In a week or so the hard pack is melted down and there is a lot of slush out there. The roads turned into shallow rivers but there is still a solid block of ice in between the layers of water!  Lots of folks out there yesterday, it was hard to tell until the fog lifted. We fished in 15' of water next to a little bowl of 32' of water and it started out pretty slow. We had three 8 year old girls and they ended up making snowmen for the first hour lol.

About 4 o'clock we caught our first perch, it was a flurry after that until dark. Quite a bit of sorting to do but we kept a dozen and a half in the 9 to 10" range. We caught a few in the 11" range too.

Yeah the roads were looking like it was March, it doesn't surprise me they are closing the roads to everyone but their customers.

What did you have them hitting on? plastics, spoons, minnows, waxworms???  Just doing some planning for a trip up that way in two weeks.

I had a spoon on most of the time, switching between a rattln flyer and some odd named spoon but it was basically a willow blade with a treble on it. They both seemed to work, the gals had on small vertical jigs with a minnow pierced through the back. Best one for them was a white glow lindy frostee.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
