Any updates on travel to LOW would be appreciated. Leaving tomorrow morning. Have not called any resorts yet to see lake conditions. I read 1 report that they received 12 incur of the white stuff and am worried about lake travel as well with wheel house.

511mn is the DOT's website, it may take a bit to figure out how to use it, but worth it IMO.We are planning on heading up to the Winnie area in the morning too  We use 35E to Moose Lake then go  up to 2 from there. As far as lake conditions, I can't help

I-35 was perfect over New Year's weekend.  All 2-lane highways west of I-35 were at least partially snow and/or ice covered.  Many roads still dealing with the ice/rain from the Christmas storm with thick ice and/or compressed snow along the shoulders.  Going up MN72 from Shooks to Baudette was good on Thursday 12/29, but fresh snow over the weekend (about 5 inches) had snow on the road coming home on 1/1.  Saw two wheel houses on their sides in the ditch on US2 just east of Deer River on 1/1.  Saw many wheel houses that were clearly too heavy on the tongue.  Strongly suggest you make sure you're loaded and balanced properly to avoid traction/handling issues.

Lake conditions seemed fine if you stay on the roads.  Any snow on the lake is hard, which will make off-road travel challenging.  There are moving cracks and ice ridges in some areas.  There is anywhere from about 10" to about 16" of ice, depending on where you are.  We hit slushy spots on the river with our sleds.  Obviously, the current  cold will help.  Check with the resorts, not all roads are open yet, nor are all rigs allowed out on roads that are open.

Thanks for the input guys. I have been up there many times in ruff weather conditions and people seem to think they can drive the speed limit or faster cuz they have 4 wheel drive. I have seen way to many in the ditch wheel house split open like a tin can. I'm getting to old for the white knuckle drives. Stay safe.

Seems like every year when I go up its the middle of a snowstorm and the roads are crap, LOL.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
