How in the world do I do that? I'm going to go disassemble it in a bit and see what I can do so I can stay out after dark tonight.

I know if you use a 20lb tank you better use a filter on buddy heaters or they will get plugged up from residue from the tanks

I definitely use a filter. I've broken it down all day long, one line had liquid in it, some kind of oil. The line to the pilot tube was gunky and wasn't letting anything through. I can get the pilot to light now, but it's a small blue flame and it will only run without the filter. I might go try to find a 3ft hose and a new filter and start from there but I don't feel like driving the 18 miles to Bemidji lol

Have both a double sunflower and single/cooker combo.  Double is VERY warm even in uninsulated older Frabill. Because it is sooo warm I opt for the single.  Fairly easy other than on low it will go out once in awhile.

Portable detector is probably a good idea.

Have ran 100's of pounds maybe even 1000's through my buddy. Never had a filter hooked up to it and never have had any real problems with it. Hold the switch in the on position for 10-15 seconds before you click it over that's all I ever need to do to mine.

I cleared all of the lines and the pilot still wouldn't stay lit so I bypassed that tip over switch and now it stays lit like it did last year... Well that problem is solved for now but I need to get a backup.

All of these heater problems would be solved if you just keep catching fish. The reeling in motion will keep you warm then you won't need a heater :)

I've had my best luck with the portable Buddy, 2 of them work awesome(one is from 1st year they came out), the 3rd has been finicky from day one. Did get moisture in pilot tube once, blew it out and was good to go.

Big Buddy I've had problems with.

Heater/cooker's have been bulletproof also.

in last 6-8 years use portable buddy most of the time.

use 1 lbs most of the time, usually 11 lb on sunflower.

Had the big buddy for my large pop up tent.  Kept it warm but on very cold days it would eventually turn off due to the low oxygen sensor.  I would be careful with a sunflower at least get a carbon monoxide detector.  The only time I had trouble with it was when I left it out overnight in the tent and it got frosted over...had to bring it in to melt.  It needs to be covered in transport so snow does get into it.   Now with my perm the big buddy is often too big even on low.  I bought the little buddy because after a big ice storm the locks were solid ice so I now carry that back and forth and break it out each time the locks freeze and de-icer is not enough.  Have to light it on the wind protected side of the house.  The bonus is that now when I don't need much heat I use the little buddy and aim it right at the wife and she is happy and so am I.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
