I went one last time yesterday afternoon with a friend for a few hours.  We each got one, and we each missed one.  Raised about 20 birds at four spots, plus one deer.  Unfortunately, the season is now over.

It was a superb season though.  Second best season I've had with this dog.  She just had her 13th season.  I hope she can do it again next year.

I'll be sorting my sock drawer now for a couple months...

Well I crushed the walleyes on Mille Lacs lol ! My friend and I caught like 20 each, BUT the biggest was 17 1/2 and the smallest was 3 inches. We also end up with 10 jumbo perch. This was on Sunday we tossed a few 9-10 inch perch back. I would say 95 % the eyes were from 7-14.

ice was 15 inches and growing. Bring cleats as there is no snow to speak of.

Ok the ice was 15-16 inches and less than 2 inches of snow. It’s was -15 this morning and the weekend looks to be cold again. The fish were there but not biting with change in weather.

Very nice one man house. The straight front wall makes much more useable area than if it was slanted. I got one two years ago but only have used it a few times. 😬 An extra pair of hands are handy when attaching the skin to the tub. Going to get it down from the shelf in the garage and it will reside in the back of my truck the rest of the season. 😀

Ok ok here is the deal !! Friday I went to blue lake and got skunked !!!! I fished all over and only marked 5 fish. I had one light bite and missed. I tried every color jig and plastic nothing. I normally don’t have an issue getting fish there. I did learn a lot.

Went to Mille Lacs with the legend Eyeguy and we got some jumbos. 10 a piece. I picked a few more after the photo of them in the bucket. If you go bring cleats or you will fall. IMG_8043.thumb.jpeg.a661ebcc384d72141c5d08e7dca411b7.jpegIMG_8043.thumb.jpeg.a661ebcc384d72141c5d08e7dca411b7.jpeg

Thinking of getting to Mille Lacs some day this week. Your new house must have been toasty with that heater cooker. I downsized from a Big Buddy to a Buddy in mine.

What side of the lake were you on and were you fishing in the mud by shore or out by the flats?

Transition from sand to mud the north end. It’s not far from shore. Depth varies 27-32 feet to find the edge. Watch your vexilars to help see the bottom soften up. Watch for masses of mayfly larvae  when you see that the perch are coming quick. Jiggin spoons is what was working for me and Eyeguy was jiggin spoons and 5-6 mm tungsten jigs. I think with tungsten a mayfly nymph from northland would work too. I like jiggin spoons as they are bigger and easier to see.

yes I roasted in the house so I am looking to get a much smaller heater as I have the big buddy and heater/cooker. This what I am thinking. What do you all think?

I have a Big Buddy I use in my Clam Voyager thermo top, and a Buddy I use in my thermo Eskimo wide 1.  Normally I only have the buddy set to low in the Eskimo.  Both setups seem to work pretty well.  I haven't used my Sun heaters in years and I haven't melted or burned holes in anything in years either!  🫠

On the South Shore...  Ice fishing is going great across the south shore of Lake of the Woods, with good fishing reports and expanding ice conditions. Many ice roads are now extending more than 12 miles out, with over two feet of ice reported in most areas. Resorts and outfitters are increasing weight limits, and many roads are now open to 1-ton vehicles pulling wheelhouses. Be sure to check with each resort for the latest weight limit and road condition updates before heading out. Fishing this past week has been very good with consistent action for anglers.  Most fishing activity is taking place in 26-32 feet of water. Resorts are proactively moving fish houses to stay on schools of walleyes and saugers. Anglers are finding a healthy mix of walleyes and saugers, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy fresh fish meals and bring fish home.  The limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of 6 fish, up to 4 can be walleyes.  All walleyes 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  Anglers are allowed to keep one walleye over 28 inches per day if desired. Lots of jumbo perch in the mix this year.  Other species making appearances include eelpout (burbot), pike, tullibees, crappies, and the occasional sturgeon. The "one-two punch" of jigging a spoon or lipless crankbait in one hole to attract active fish, and a live minnow on a plain hook or small jig in the second hole for deadsticking.    For the jigging line, rippin raps, pink charmers, coffin spoons, leech flutter spoons, and rattling flyer spoons have been effective.  Tip spoons with a minnow head or tail.   On the deadstick, use a plain hook or a small jig with a live minnow 6 inches to a foot off of the bottom.   Electronics are highly recommended to help anglers locate suspended fish, track movements, and adjust presentations based on the fish's mood. Most resorts and bait shops rent electronics for those without their own. On the Rainy River...  The Rainy River continues to produce some walleyes and saugers during the morning and evening hours. A jig and minnow combination remains effective for targeting these fish. Catch-and-release sturgeon fishing has also been good for anglers who enjoy battling these prehistoric giants. The preferred setup involves drilling oversized holes or three holes together, using nightcrawlers or frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig fished along the bottom. Ice conditions on the river vary significantly due to the current, so anglers should always consult local resorts or outfitters for the most up-to-date safety information and fishing advice. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing continues to be very good at the Northwest Angle.  Resorts have spread out their fish houses across a variety of areas, some fishing on structure and others targeting deeper mud flats. Anglers are reporting a nice mix of walleyes, saugers, jumbo perch, pike, and tullibees.  Good numbers of big crappies being caught amongst the islands, inquire with NW Angle resorts to book a crappie house.   Good colors... Gold, glow red, glow white, Wonder bread, pink, chartreuse and orange, or a combo of these colors. With thickening ice, the rest of the ice fishing season is looking strong. Lake of the Woods enjoys an extended ice fishing season with fish houses on the ice through March 31st and walleye and sauger seasons open through April 14th. Perch, crappie, and pike seasons remain open year-round.

Not much snow on the lake but the high winds are really affecting the conditions.  I made the mistake of drilling a hole outside of my house and the water came gushing up.  I spent the rest of the day blocking the house up in 3 inches of water, and nearly falling into the water a couple of times.  The muck boots finally couldn't handle it any more and my feet got wet.  When I lifted the house for another block in the afternoon the wind started pushing the back end of the house off the blocks so I stopped at one block today.  Will have to go up again on Friday to lift it even higher since the water is up to the bottom of the floor.   A couple of pickups plowed a road close to my house in the afternoon.  When I used this road a couple of hours later it was significantly drifted over.  Fortunately my Michelin Cross Climate II tires have excellent traction and I made it through without putting on my tire chains.  They are predicting a couple inches of snow on Tuesday with 15-25 mph winds, gusting even higher.  This is going to make the drifting even worse.   Fishing was quite slow.  Caught a handful of 9-11 inch walleyes and one at 16 inches.   Good luck fishing, and don't drill holes if surrounded by high snow drifts.

How did the Eagles put up 55 points?!  Wow, what a score fest.  Turnovers?   if I root for the Chefs they’ll die an agonizing death like Josh Allen not getting a frost down on 4th and 1.  lol!   But why not watch history in the making as a 3 peat?
