I will try to get out bird hunting yet, but deer season is got me hooked for now. I will get out ice fishing and if you are looking for a bait in the Princeton/Zimmerman area look at Sand Dunes bait shop west of Zimmerman on country road 4 next to the getaway bar. The have some beautiful spearing decoys and is really nice.

I hope to finally get a pheasant for Hazel yet.

It changed hands, It's called the Getaway Bar in Orrock now. I unload to going sleding and have lunch there every winter.   But the bait store and gas station is still there.

My wife has a cousin that lives just down the road from that place.  Her cousin and hubby spent alot of time there in the past. Was a pretty fun place when we'd go there.

You know what's odd, I haven't bumped a single deer since before Thanksgiving while pheasant hunting.

I usually kick at least a couple up nearly every time I go.  I find this to be very odd because there's arguably more deer around than I've ever seen in this area right now.

I went fishing with my old man and we caught and released a few fish. Next time I will have to hit my normal lake.

Had a tremendous hunt yesterday.  Took  about 2 hours at 2.5 spots.  I took one of my Father's friends with, as he's been asking me to come with for a while now.  The second spot had 26 birds, and I folded up 4 roosters there.  Looks like the landscape is about to change though, with a decent amount of white stuff on the ground next time I go.

I keep close track of my possession limit so that I'm always a daily bag limit short when I go hunting, first and foremost.  I also give a number of them away to friends, co-workers, and family every season.  I vacuum seal mine so they last months without getting freezer burned.

Pheasant is very similar to grouse, just a little bigger.  Tender white meat like chicken.  You could make it just about any way you prepare chicken.  My personal favorite recipe is in a cast iron pot slow cooked with a can of cream of mushroom soup.  A crock pot would also work, but it just takes longer.

Cube up the meat, wrap in bacon, pin with a toothpick and crockpot with brown sugar for a couple hours.  Great appetizers.

i've hunted and cooked pheasant........just curious how others do it!!!!!  have some fussy eaters regarding some wild game. if i'm by myself i bake it after browning and eat it that way...... IF i gotta tend with fussy eaters i cook it then throw it in chow mein!!!!!

Wild rice hot-dish is my go too for picky eaters. It’s like a thick wildrice soup.

It was a struggle to get the fish to bite. From the few people I talked to I did ok, but it was not up to my normal expectations. There about 10 inches in all the holes I cut today.

I didn’t get out but reports from friends fishing from around here and North, including Red, were also less than expected.  One said he should’ve known better than to waste time fishing in a SE wind like that.
