Bow hunting early always seemed to be a worry if you could get a deer taken care of soon enough in the heat? 🙁

Leaving tomorrow for it.  One guy there already had 2 opportunities today.  We’ll quarter, pack out and hold in a cooler for anything we get.  Just gotta focus on it if we’re fortunate enough to get a kill.

We lost a shipment of caribou meat from AK once due to the airlines f-up.  There’s SOME time but you have to be prepared and act on what you’re prepared for.

Well yeah kind of like cutting up a big greasy Bear on a 70 degree Monday morning at 1:00am and having to get up and make it to work that day!  Bad planning on our part for shooting one on a Sunday evening!  :P

Well, you got the bear.  Sleep can be recovered.  I’d say the plan was OK. 😉

I have and Finn gets all the balls. Once she gets the dummy or ball she swims normally

I went back to Lake X/Y/Z on Saturday afternoon and crushed them.  I had not been there since late August and the water temps have finally begun to drop into the mid 60's.  There was a rapid weather change that occured with the wind shifting from the south to the west and a temperature drop which I believe triggered a very aggressive feeding window.  I caught 19 bass and 5 pike in about 4 hours, including my biggest this season, a 21 incher that weighed nearly 6 pounds.

Shot the muzzleloader and I am good. Then saw big groups of woodducks  everywhere. I saw 300 easy as the sunset.

Had something crazy happen this morning a fork horn buck came running up to Finn and I while sitting on the pond at just after legal shooting time. Finn bark and the buck snorted and came closer. Next I saw was a big white flash of Finn going after this buck. They made it to the field and then the buck started chasing Finn. The buck stopped at 40 yards from me and Finn was behind me. I thought I was going to have shoot this buck if it tried to get me. I also could have got my fall turkey as, but you can’t have a dog with or shot bigger than 4 shot. I had 2 shot only with me. What a crazy day. Only had a few ducks close enough but I was busy trying make sure this deer didn’t hurt my dog.

Where? I could sluice a turkey and my deer! 🤣🤣

Fishing is still pretty good.  Went with a friend and the dog yesterday for about 5 hours, managed 19 largemouth and 10 pike.  I normally don't take photos of pike but several of these fish were on the larger side and quite thick so they made the cut.  One of these days my fishing season is going to be over but for now the fish are still cooperating.

Not to mention it was like 80 degrees too.

I imagine that the harvest during the 4 day youth and antlerless season is going to be the worst its ever been with the warm and windy conditions.

Boat is winterized and now its time to get ready to do some hunting on Nov 9.  Check on some stands and shoot my rifle.

Sure hope its not 75 degrees on opener.

Well I checked on stands over the weekend.  Kind of a disaster.

All the ditches are plum full and twice as wide becauase muskrats have clogged an area.  I spent an hour unclogging it and the water is slowly moving again, but our bridges and planks were underwater.  The back portion of the land where the best stand is was inaccessible.  Hopefully that changes by Saturday.  I have a feeling the muskrats are just going to clog it back up again.

Tons of standing corn still too.  They've started on it, but being so wet now with more rain coming, whatever's there will remain there for the foreseeable future.

All the grassland is completely flattened like a pancake due to 3-4 inches of heavy wet snow.  That eliminates about 75% of the pheasant habitat in this spot.  Total buzz kill.  And this specific spot was one of my better producers last season because the grass was intact and lush through December last year.

Good thing you made a check run.  That would have really suked walking into opening day.  Why do you think muskrats and not beavers?

I'm not one to leave that to chance the day I need it.  I always check on my stands prior to the season.  Just like I always shoot my rifle before the season and I always run my outboard motor before fishing opener.  Too many things to go wrong without confirming it ahead of time.

I guess it could have been beavers but the house itself didn't appear nearly big enough along one ditch.  It was about the size of chair.  I've seen beavers houses many times before and they appear much bigger than that.
