Regardless of the insane weather report, I am heading north. The itch is too strong to ignore, my wife is begging me to go LOL, and I have some company so I do not need to do it alone. Planning on wheelers and sleds, bringing every item of protection and warmth I can find, figuring TECHNICALLY there would be enough ice to support our 2000 Jeep Cherokee Ice Rig, but not at all expecting anyone to be allowing lightweight SUV's. But hey, a guy can dream, and with -25deg temps, I dont want to let the dream die!! :P who knows, maybe a guy will get lucky and mother nature will slam out a few more inches of ice! It is certainly cold enough... But my gut tells me the experience will included some wicked cold fingers and a deep desire to have added some hand warmers to the wheeler in the off season!

So.. who else is going!? I know I am a die hard crazy ice fisherman, but I also know there are many out there more crazy than me!

My season officially begins in T - 11 hrs!

Lake of the woods is in my sights

I had two guests back out due to the forecast.  Word has it that it is brutally cold.

I woke up this morning sort of down that I was not heading up for first ice fishing and the whole experience.  So now I am looking at the forecast and working to satisfy my inner drive to go, planning (or at least considering) on heading up on Friday afternoon.

The wind is the key to comfort.  Monday to Wednesday forecast looks awesome, but I have business to take care of at work, so I need to head back on Sunday or Monday.

Stay safe and warm!!!!  ...and best of luck.

"Feels like" temp up there -41deg F and that's in town. Wind off the lake has to be worse yet.

I did think about it a lot and ended up staying home and looking out the windows at the beautiful snow fall.  Now looking forward to a week of ice, snow, and fishing starting after Christmas!!!

Well, I kept my man card active and went! It was cold, but the proper gear and preparation helped. Fishing was OK. Caught some and had fun regardless of weather. Looking forward to a great year! By Christmas we should be able to drive out, so by then cold weather won't be a major factor in my books.

The 29th can't come fast enough. What was once a family tradition for dad, brother, and a couple friends that could have been brothers (R.I.P) will soon become a family tradition for the next generation as well.
