We will be marking the trail across the bay this afternoon for atv's and side by sides. We have 8 inches in the bay where our trail is. out in the lake we have 5 3/4 inches to 8 inches of ice. We have made a trail through the rough ice on the north side of pine island. We will be pulling some ice houses out for this weekend. Good luck fishing.

Thanks for the report Brian.  Can you tell me if there are any pockets of snow on the lake that we could hit to keep our hyfax cooled on the sleds, or is it pure ice?

Plenty of snow out there.  Take a look at the MODIS sattelite shot.

Not so sure that's snow you're seeing.  It's my understanding that much of the south shore didn't freeze with clear ice, so what appears to be snow is likely hard pack snow/ice, which s not going to cool hyfax/slides, etc.  Hoping to get feedback from someone that's been on the ice in recent days.

Take a look at Lake of the woods board of tourism on facebook.  They have a video posted of Border View Lodge and a few others of dragging the road and pix of lake north of Pine island.  not a lot of snow but plenty to keep your rails cool.
