Great August fishing continues.  Trolling crankbaits in 30-34' is the most popular approach producing many nice fish.  Different colors work on different days.  Chrome, red, and white are good colors to start with.  Lots of small tulibees in walleye stomachs.  Schools of walleyes are scattered across the lake.  Use electronics in "no man's land" to find bait and fish.  Many nice pike over 40" caught by walleye anglers. Reefs are holding walleyes and pike alike.  Smallies are active on shallow rocks.

On the Rainy River, lots of rain dirtied the water. Covering lots of water is key while targeting rocks and slack water for bass. Some walleyes starting to show up in 4 Mile Bay and at mouth of river.  Anglers having some success sturgeon fishing. Sturgeon "keep" season is now open through Sep. 30.

Up at the NW Angle, fishing around Four Blocks, Little Oak and south shore of Oak Island has produced nice walleyes.  Some drifting with spinners in shallower areas.  Others trolling cranks away from structure with success.  Purple and clown colors on crankbaits, gold spinners, and jigging when fish are up shallow on the rocks have all been tactics of choice. In Ontario waters, walleye bite has been in 22-30 feet of water scattered in the mud flats using spinners and bottom bouncers. A few Crappies have been showing up. Muskies being boated in Minnesota and Canadian waters. Casting rock reefs offshore and shallow weedy bays have been best. Topwaters, bucktails and Thrillers have been go to baits this week! .
