Me and my 15yr old son plan to walk out about a mile over Graceton Reef. 12/29

Have some waypoints marked from 10 years ago when I was a regular up there.

Anybody have any ice reports or known hazards?

Any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome TwinCitiesFischer , Best of luck in your fishing endeavor. probably best too check with the local resorts as they would have the day to day information that you will need to make it a safe trip. Stay safe and fish well !!!!

Thanks for the advice. I did try calling up to Morris point lodge. All she'd tell me is go out their road and stick to trail.

I will be stopping to ask the local bait shops.

Wondered if anybody here had some first hand info.

Thanks for the reply.

Walked out from there today.  Maybe 15-20 minute walk out to 25 feet.  Lots of fish around.  Mostly saugers (some very nice) and a few eyes mixed in.  Small jigging spoons with a minnow head was the best but we did catch some on whole minnows under a bobber.  There is a decent trail from the shore that we followed most of the way.  No bad ice or problems walking at all.  We saw walkers, snowmobiles, and ATVs.

Good Luck

Lions has his houses staged up along the shore over there. My guess is he has a trail marked. We did not make it that far west. We were well west of the guys out of Morris, but not all the way over to graston. Ice thickness was varied over there. One side of my brothers house had 6", the other had 4 1/2". My house had 5" of ice. We were about 75' apart. The jagged rough ice areas have less ice than the good smooth areas as they are holding more snow. Stay on smooth ice and stay away from the areas that look grey/orange.

The resorts are pulling houses, but they are only letting portables out. If you watch them they are not sitting still with their vehicles either.

Best travel is still by sled or chained up wheeler.

Is it all private access over by Graceton?  Heading up Friday.  Can you get on the lake through Morris point?

Just looked at Morris website.  Got all excited for a second  until I saw the date on the report.  1 year old.  Really........?

No the dead end road ends right at the lake. You can go off from there.

Will be hitting Graceton tomorrow and Saturday unless we decide to go further east.

Do I need chains on the ATV?  Don't plan wandering off any trail too far.

Is there a trail/road out of Graceton or travel at your own risk?  Sorry for all the questions

Did not go out of Graceton but went out of Zipple instead.  Heard about some close calls and thin ice from a friend that lives up there so played it safe and went out on staked trails by the resort.  Fished only a half day as other things to do but got enough for a meal.  8" of ice under us but there are places with 4".  Stay away from snow drifts out there.  You would not need chains on your ATV slammer.
