I'm coming up over MEA and saw that the forecast looks to be 10-12 mph winds out of the w / nw.  Will I have a reasonable shot at getting out into the near shore gap areas in a 16.5 deep v boat or will I likely have to stay in the river?  Thanks!!

I have never seen a NW wind at or less than the forecast.  It is typically more.  Being in the SE corner of the lake, the rollers will be pretty worked up and make it tough fishing on the lake.  I have done it in same sized boat you are referencing, but it may not be comfortable.  Please be safe.

Thanks much for the thoughts.  I'm not interested in pushing the envlope, so hopefully the river bite will have kicked in.

As said above, if you don't feel comfortable, dont do it, things can go wrong in a hurry! A strong wind that blows into the gap and against the current makes for some very large unpredictable waves. If you can't make it out on the lake there are a few little deeper pockets on the Four Mile Bay side of Pine Island near the gap that seem to always have fish in them, never got a monster in them but many a fish fry have been salvaged on windy days by hitting those pockets, if you have a map card take a look and try are easy to pick out. Good luck! If they change that forecast I may be up there too.

the drive from the ramp to the gap should be ok.  if its not, the lake won't be any better.   we fished in 10mph S/SW winds last wedn and it was fine,  winds came from the north thurs and friday and made it a bit bumpy.   we tried fishing in 24' on thurs and just couldn't take it.  we went 10mph back to the gap it was so bumpy.  friday was alot better but still we took it nice and slow.

i have a 16.5' pro-v.
