King Power Plant / Sturgeon

This Friday I'm going to head out to try some shore fishing on the St Croix for the first time so I figured I would give the King Power Plant a try. Anyone been out there lately? Is it open? Is the plant running?

I'm going to try for sturgeon and cats. Any idea how deep it is in there?

Also if I'm reading the regs correctly I can use 2 fishing poles and have two lines out in the water?

I only have a 12 foot jon boat with a 6 HP motor so the stillwater / bay port area of the croix seems like a bad idea in my boat.

Use the boat! The recreation traffic is but a fraction of what it is in the summer. If you don't want to launch at the boomsite, you can launch at the ferry park landing on the WI side. And yes, you can use 2 lines.

Hmmm, interesting. I'll have to consider that. The Ferry Park Landing looks pretty good. From the sat photos I can't tell if there is much parking there?

Any idea what the depths are like outside of bayport and hudson?

At ferry park you have to park up the hill, and there's probably room for 6 to 8 rigs, depending on how well everyone parks. No dock. I can't quite remember the hours, I don't know if it closes at sunset or 10 PM. You can check out the DNR lake finder and look at a map to get an idea of depths, structure, etc. I've never targeted cats or sturgeon in that area, but I've caught lot's of smallies and white bass all through there.

I've down scanned the warm channel and it's a pretty consistent 10 to 12 feet ,

Kinda thinking about heading out around Stillwater tomorrow myself

Did you mean, what is it like? It's shallow for about 30 feet, then begins to drop off. Fairly rocky bottom, good for Smallies, Perch and Drum.
