Dog Kennel Floor

Looking at either building a wood floor or trying some cement pavers to make a floor for an outside kennel.  Want to stay away from pouring a cement slab due to fact I won't be staying here permanently.  Have done wood before before but can get slick with rain for the dogs.  Anyone ever use the pavers before?  Does it work?  Is cleaning it up a mess?  Any advice or tips wold be appreciated, thanks!

I have never done this, but a friend does it and it works great, I have always wanted to do it, but I havent. He just puts a few inch layer of 1" rock on the kennel floor. The pee soaks through, the rock keeps the weeks down, and the poop stays on top. I have checked out his kennels, and it works great!

I used decking material for my dog since he wouldn't quit digging. Just laid down 4x4s and then screwed the decking to that.  We coated it with the new stain that has texture in it. Works great. Pee doesn't soak in either.

Pavers would probably be OK if you put them down correctly.  It they are uneven you will have trouble shoveling out the snow.  Weeds may grow but you can deal with that easily enough.  I think the wood our any kinds of a raised wood structure would get to be a problem once the urine saturates the ground.  I have a poured slab and still have to put down hydrated lime a couple times a year to get rid of the odor.

I built mine using pavers.  After I tamped down and leveled the area I left a small gap between all the pavers. I then swept a bag of concrete over the entire area, lightly hosed it down with water and it was all set.  Kennel is now 15+ years old and there has been some settling and a few weeds getting in there but it has held up amazingly well.  I would and will do it this way again.

I built a raised kennel with 2 x 6 boards for the floor (non treated). Easy to clean, and its nice when its hot out as the air circulates from underneath. Less rub sores too from when I had concrete.

There are many different types of paving but Cement paving is preferred more as it last for many years. In fact, I had recently, paving my driveway with cement and was designed by Long island paving company as I had heard a lot about them with positive reviews. I am totally happy with the word done by them.
