Just got home after 3 days at Drayton, tried up stream and down stream of the dam but the best fishing we had was in close to the white water of the dam, estimated 70-80 fish in 2 1/2 days. We could not find any frogs around here so we used cut bait and shrimp, most fish came on the shrimp, biggest fish was 36, never caught a 3 person limit of slot fish, plenty of bigger fish.

I'm pretty sure I saw you on Monday.  It was an amazing day.

OFFICIAL REPORT FOR 9-17-15

It is safe to say the fall bite is still on.  The warmer weather of the past week has kept the catfish on the feed in preparation of winter.  Cats are being caught in most structure with the faster current edges of structure or the heads of holes being the best locations.  Don't forget to look shallow especially in the morning and evening as trophy cats are feeding very shallow during these times. The bait of choice is still frogs but goldeye has been catching fish as well.

The water is getting low below the dams so be careful when you are navigating.

The forecast for the next week looks good so take advantage of this last push of catfish action before fall really sets in.

Thought that was you but not sure, I was having motor issue's for awhile there until I went back to the ramp and dumped out the old gas, switched fuel filter. I had been up sense 2 in the morning and the other guys had left from Iowa Sunday afternoon so we didn't stay for the night bite.

Wednesday fishing was unbelievably good, was hard to get ourselves to leave at noon.

I should have been up there Wednesday but oh well.  Monday was stupid good for big fish.  I am scheduled to be there a couple times next week.

Catfishing remains good on the Red River for now.  The cooler temperatures of this week will eventually bring a great season to an end.  It looks now like a week or maybe ten days are left of the good bite before the catfish start to move in search of the wintering holes.

Look for fish very shallow (1-4 feet)  generally just off the current and near deep water.  Some sort of structure such as a snag seems to hold fish better but they will lay in a nook along the bank too.  The bait of choice this week is sucker but both frog and goldeye are working.

Exercise caution in some parts of the the river because it is getting very low but still very fishable.

The end is near.  Water temperature has slowly dropped to the low 50s and cool nights are not helping. Catfish are holding shallow and out of the current, usually on backside of the inside bend.  They are also holding in shallow snags about 1-4 feet seem to be the best.  Sit on spots about 30 minutes to make sure the catfish can find the bait.  Bait has been about anything you have.  Sucker is probably the best but cats are taking frogs as well.
