2 trucks today??? Same area??? We need some more info than that. You can stay on the main road but eventually you have to leave it to fish.....

Have to wonder how many trucks this lake is gonna sink this year. West winds had one this weekend too. If that makes 3 in a few days it sounds like a problem!!!!!

Over the weekend 2 trucks decided that they could cross the pressure ridge in Westwinds area without using a bridge. crazy 1 of them was not even a Westwinds customer.

There were other close calls this weekend. 1 wheelhouse went out from the south shore got lost and ended up on the north shore so somehow they got across the pressure ridge without sinking. Don't ask me how, pure luck?

Buddy Hillman saw 3 trucks racing across the lake heading right for the ridge and just barely got them stopped before they drove into the ridge.

Fishermen need to realize that their GPS tells them how to get to a place on the lake. It DOES NOT tell them how the ice is from where they are to that place.

When we left this afternoon there were some very small patches of snow, not enough to bank a house, and the wind was really howling too! It was snowing a little so it's blowing it somewhere, we were on the north shore, might be more snow on the ice down south?

going up this weekend.

guess if there's no snow I will just set it on the ice.

would rather block it up. smile

I always set my house down on the ice no matter what and have never had a problem as long as the heat is on the whole time, where we have fished the last couple weekes the ice is so good absolutely no water has come up the holes even with the truck hooked to the house. Hole sleeves are a must now though, and dump the slush from the auger outside the door to prevent a nasty fall.

Thanks for the info Kelly! Bringing my wife and the girls along this weekend so wanted to be sure all will be OK. House is already up at Buddy's so if we follow his instructions we should be fine. No cross country trips to visit Jonny yet then! I hope all is well for him and how are you enjoying the season? Is it fun to fish without all the pressure or is Beacons keeping you too busy? Hope to see you around on the ice sometime... cool

We were in 9 1/2 feet, there is a pressure ridge out a bit farther that they are working on crossing but no need to go out that far yet. I think we were exactly 1 mile out.

That's the idea fishalittle. The ice is cracked way back from the actual pressure ridges and until we get 18 to 20 inches of ice the chunks busted out do not bind on each other so they can spin on the hole. Stay back from the pressure ridges.

I haven't done much yet as there has not been any plowing to do. Beacon's has a pretty good crew of "young pups" doing the work. An old fat guy like me would just get in their way. grin

I went out Buddy's road the other day to see how he was doing and that is an impressive road. I've been on a lot of "Hillman Highways" through the years but as soon as the ice thickens a little so Buddy can bridge the pressure ridge this road could be special and Buddy will be off to the races.

Looking forward to working with Buddy this year. I took my bridge over there yesterday and donated to hillmens forever as I have no use for it as I never intend to have aroad access.

cookie, why didn't you bring in a few young guys to run things for you? Then you could have spent more time fishing or having coffee by the heater and watching the lake out the window? smile

Nice!   It would be great if they had some kind of brake, so you don't end up on your neighbors YouTube video going down the driveway! 😆

Last month I went searching online for a trailer jack with pneumatic tires. Instead I found the video below showing a relatively quick and easy upgrade to your existing jack:     It's worked pretty well. I definitely had to mess around with finding the right combination of spacers, washers, and locknut pressure that wouldn't bind up the wheels. However, it is a pretty sweet setup and allows me much better control. We live at the end of a half-alley. My garage faces the end so when I need to hook my boat up to the truck, I have to pull it out into my driveway and then swivel it 180 degrees to face towards the street. The handle is what really makes the difference and now the trailer jack wheels don't slide on the asphalt. Has anyone else done this conversion?

I've got a pile of crawlers ready to go - a nice side benefit of all the rain in the metro lately.   At the very least, I hope that the remaining trappers are making some better money off of the higher prices. I would think that it would be a great way for local kids to make some cash. I can see why it wouldn't make for a great way to make a living as an adult.

Went out yesterday with the sunshine. I did find crappies in the shallows on a darker stained lake with Temps at 58 degrees. They had no interest in my baits

That's part of it.  Several recent years of drought have definitely played a role.   There's other factors too.  MN does not allow importation of live bait from other states either.  That really affects the amount of golden shiners available, most of which are not trapped here.  In other words, demand exceeds supply.   Lots of bait trappers and dealers have simply hung it up in recent years.  Its hard work for not much money.  The two nearest me are both done as of last October.  They both told me its just not worth it anymore.  One of them had been there for 45 years.   My advice would be to learn how to effectively fish with artificial lures more often.  I've slowly weened myself off the use of live bait nowadays.

Think the Free crawlers in the back yard are going to take a hit this summer! 🤭

Correction, rainbow minnows are at least 75 cents each, and leeches are $60 per pound. lol

Their coming! Was poking around southern center mn last Friday and found about 20 on a hill side, all to small to pick yet.  Spots on the GPS! 🤗

Water Temps 48-52. I tried for crappies and caught two walleye. I can't even crappie fish. 1/32 ounce jig and a tiny minnow
