I know no one can predict actions of others, but I have not heard of theft and vandalism being a big issue on LOW.

That being said could I be relatively confident leaving my house out on the lake and not have to pull it back into shore at the end of each trip?

Does' anybody have experience doing this also?

And of course nothing of particular value would be left inside when not in use.

Many houses stay on the ice for the entire season. Other issues/risks to consider beyond security are accessibility after a good snow fall and blow; or a unexpected melt or crack that results in unusual amount of water on top the ice.

It has always been a non issue for us until last year.

It was not theft or vandalism but as listed above... it was weather.

We got smoked by the huge snowfall and the effort involved in retrieving our house was nothing short of a miracle. Morris Point earned our return business a thousand times over with that one.

We used to park in front of Cyrus resort in the bay but some dingleberry unwound our power cord and dumbed it onto the lake during a rain storm. After a 4 hr drive we arrived to discover the cord frozen into 4 inches of ice. mad

There is a farm house on Morris Point's rd. It is a trailer house with lots of equipment. That guy plows out his entire field and last year was charging an EXTREMELY reasonable price to park there for the season. Quick and easy on and off the lake.

Weather is unpredictable. We got burned hard last year. But it is what it is. Leaving the house out there always involves a level of risk.

But again. NEVER have had an issue with theft. Which is amazing since that is all I hear about on other lakes.

Several resorts allow you to park in their field or parking lot for a small fee. Usually costs about $3 a day or you can pay for a season rate. As mentioned, weather is a bigger concern than theft. I have seen some houses absolutely buried in ice and snow that were left on the lake.

Word to the wise, don't ever leave you wheel house on the big lake when you leave. I could tell you horror stories and thats no bull hit smile. here at bugsys weget a buck a day on shore or leave it on the bay in front of the lodge for free .

Ive let my camper sit on the lake for seasons at a time, never a theft issu. but think id take that over all the four ft doughnut drifts that lock me in with no means to get to it, Ive had over a 1/4 mile walk to it before with equipment just to fish cause roads change ect.. ive had to wait till melt down and risk a fine from DNR just finally be able to drive to it, Ive spent large amoutnt of money to get it pulled out of the doughnut drift, and have tipped some very awsome track vehicle owners cash and beer to drage me out. it is allways wise to pull back to shore ans spend some cahs to the good folks at the resorts to plow you a new spot each time. I have a 2013 IC and thats what I do now, I will not leave it out on the ice, for more than one week forcast pending.

There is absolutely no reason to leave it out on the lake. The bite can move week to week and like the other guys say the weather will almost guarantee you not to get to it next time unless you have a plow. Even then you may have to deal with a crack in the ice. Just pull it to shore and unhook there. Many people do that and that is what we do every year

Thanks for the input. smile

application has been submitted. 👍   Leech......i've shot my share of bear......it be nice to get another but not the end of the world if i dont. i get to spend time with my son...its just another way to get into the woods. i've been at it since about 1976......that rush when you walk up to the bait and see the logs scattered all over and bait gone just doesnt get old for me.   i had to get rid of 1 rug because of bad tanning. i have another rug, shoulder mount and made 3 pillows from 2 different bear hides. my biggest issue has become what to do with the hide....that seems more of a trophy then the meat. i inquired 1 year at the Alex decoy show when there were a couple hide guys there and they didnt seem to interested. 🙄 i have no other ideas for the hide.......approval from the wife is not even negotiable!!!!!

Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.   Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.   I’ll tell  ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.
