cell phone reception

Headed up next week and was curious on Verizon cell reception. I use hot spot off my phone to run NetFlix on my smart tv in the house. Searched for this and couldn't find anything.

Verison hot spot works fine on the south side (rogers resort). I use mine the same way, run a smart tv and laptop with no buffering issues.

You can see the Verizon tower from the lake. Full 4G service on the lake...unless it is packed. Then you get the "all circuits are busy". Verizon has refused to believe a few thousand anglers crowd a town of 200 every weekend for three months and the tower apparently can't handle it.

What did people ever do before cell phones? I like mine for what it's intended for, but when I go on the lake to fish, I guess I do it old style, just a battery operated radio, shut the ringer off and forget about tv an movies, kick back relax and enjoy the peace an quiet.

I sorta see what you're saying, but you contradict yourself. The "battery operatred radio" that you listen to isn't any more 'peaceful' or 'quiet' than a tv, netflix, movies, etc....that is just an arbitrary decision you made.

Furthermore, even if you chose to arbitrarily to limit your fishing technology at radio, a modern smartphone is a much better radio/audio solution than a battery operated radio, as you can listen to whatever you want versus whatever stations happen to be in your location.

If it were just me I would be fine with just a radio. But to keep a 7 and 1o year old wanting to come ice fishing with me for three days I need to provide a little more entertainment then fishing and playing outside. I do find it weird they are more excited than me to come ice fishing. Probably because they are restricted at home to how much TV/tablet time they have, whereas the fishhouse the rules are relaxed a little bit.

best times of my life are with my kids in the ice camper playing movies an watching tv, some board games ext. and listening for ratttle reels, my kids have been coming with me since theve been big enough to plug a hole. Making it fun an comfetable for them is key, if a hand held thing a ma jig helps past the slow times then so be it. I remeber when i got my first traveling DVD playere for the car, pulled into the gas statin for gas and an elderly man noticed, inquired me about it, and said Hmmmph never had those things when when my kids were little, I responded, But if ya did, you have one. sheepishly he agreed. Technology is awsome and can certainly add fun to some pretty boaring situatons for little ones. Its a new generation for sure.

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

Been out couple times this last week. Between the rain and wind there really was only one day this past week where it was actually warm out fishing.  Water temps are low mid 50s yet, not much change from last week.  Fish are still holding out off the first break on some area lakes and right up in the boat channels and back bays of others.   Been keeping it pretty simple as far as tackle used. Having the best luck with the lil hustler tubes under a small float or throwing the Bobby Garland baby shads with a 1/32 jig head.  The Bobby's have definitely been my big fish catcher this spring.

The water looks low but appears to be on the rise. We will be there  the week after opener. I have been going since 1981 and enjoying the experience. We love the variety of fish we catch and release each year. Ice went out a bit earlier than in years past. Water may be warmer and plan to target some crappies. We fish predominately in Sand Point as we camp. Good luck all and tight lines. We may consider the hike to Lake Lucille which we did 2 years ago.

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year

I don't think its 100% accurate, you are just relying on other average joes to report precipitation. But I think most numbers there are right in the ball park, especially when you see consistency among multiple reports in a general area.   It's probably more accurate than what the weather terrorists say on the news  which usually only reports metro areas. cocorahs is good for getting rural area reports you just might not have as many reports to go off of
