I have used the Fiberglas pole with the rattle reels trick before. I tend to use a jig stick wedged into the hub frame more now.

I also use the braided tip-up line for my decoy line. I have never noticed them paying the line any attention. Remember, these are the same fish that are coming to look at a wooded decoy, spinning metal spoon, painted golf ball, or Mountain Dew can. I don't think they are too worried about a thin black string. And in the event that a dogfish or overly aggressive pike gets carried away and tries to kill and eat my decoy, the braided line holds up to he abuse better than mono

What kind of floor you guys building? Treated plywood? and what about size?

On my second Eskimo 949i which I think are the best choice and still on the first floor I built. It made of 1/8" Hardboard Tempered Panel underlayment 2 sheets 4' x 8' at $5.22 ea. cut in half and secured with piano hinges making an 8' x 8' floor that fits the 949i. Going on 4th season and still in good shape. Folded its 4'x4' fists in the back of my pickup or Arctic Cat Prowler. I built another floor this fall using 2.70mm 4'x8' Luan underlayment from Home Depot at $4.35 per sheet and is about 1/2 the weight. After fishing I set it up vertically in my garage to drain and dry. Hole location are optional, this one is my hole fishing floor. Lots of room for spearing holes in the non-door corners.

I also use braid for my decoys and suckers  I think I even have a steel leader on one of them and never had problem with them spooking,  I built a wood floor for my but and use PVC poles to hand my decoys, GoPro, spinner etc works great and can slide them out of the way when not in use.
