Back on the grid. Beautiful weekend of fishing in crane lake area and I missed this game. Sounds like they played well. Regardless of how bad Michigan is this year you still have to win in their house with 100000 plus fans. Tough place to play even considering the choke jobs the gophers have had over the last 20 years. Good win but bigger yet an important one. A signature win? Not really considering that Michigan is bad but one that should help them build confidence.

a very nice win for the Gophs. I like how this team is progressing. Despite what some Negative Nellies here say, this program is trending up. There may be some stumbles along the way, but the trend is up.

No need to downplay the victory, but also no need to hype it. It was a road-win against against a traditional Big Ten powerhouse. We could have gone in and lost. RRR, Limit, and others would have said 'same old Gophers.' That didn't happen. What did happen is the Gophers won. I'm proud of them and looking forward to more wins. They have a pretty good defense even with all of the injuries along the Dline and a very good running game. We'll see what the coaches can do with a non-existent WR corps and marginal QBs. Obviously those are top recruiting priorities.

The 3 "glass empty guys" on this thread are only happy when the Gophers lose, they probably have not slept since the Gophers grabbed the Jug!!! Any Big Ten win is a good one!!! And I see TCU is ranked 25th in the country now and moving up!!

BLAH BLAH BLAH! This is far from a meaningless win! The brown jug is the oldest trophy in all of college football! Winning it (no matter how bad Michigan may be) is a huge deal!

Even I wouldn't go so far as to say the win was "meaningless". It would be a lot more impressive if Michigan didn't seem to be so terrible this year but I agree that a win is a win, especially against an historical powerhouse.

Still a long way to go. We've got winnable games against Northwestern, Purdue, and Illinois before the tough stretch starts. Without parsing through the finer points, if we win those three and are 4-0 in the Big Ten and then drop the final four against Iowa, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin we're still at a respectable 7-4. My guess is that we'll lose one of three winnable games and win one of the four tough games.

I don't care how bad Michigan is, thats a HUGE win. AND Leidner actually looked half way competent!!! IF they can beat Northwestern with 2 weeks to prepare they could build some real momentum with some junk teams coming on the schedule and finish in the upper tier of the big ten. Things are looking surprisingly positive for once, at the moment!

TCU beat number 4 Oklahoma today. That loss isn't looking so bad after all.

Gophs make the top 20/25 by attrition....I'm ok with that.

Not great but it is was what it is...

Gophers are ranked 40th right now...North Dakota State is 39th crazy

Northwestern is looking good now, 2 big wins in a row over Penn State and Wisconsin. I honestly hope Northwestern is favored in this game, might give the gophers a little more incentive to play their best.

Really nice win for the Gophers. Kill is getting better athletes out there and the coaches are doing a good job in placing them in the right positions to make plays, especially on defense.

Glad to see the Gophers in a winning way. Maybe the opposition has not been the toughest in the Big ten but we did win those games and we typically don't, at least in the past years.

Nice to see them at a minimum competitive.

Who knows what will happen when they hit the tough games for for now, at least they are winning.

RRR would not be happy even if they won the Big Ten and the Rose Bowl, he would say they got lucky or some lame excuse.

Was at the game today couldn't ask for a better day the weather was awesome and got to see a good game, some of the calls were horrid but it was good to see them win

I don't know if Leidner had therapy, was hypnotized, or had an exorcism performed, but whatever it was, it has worked! He's playing good, leading the offense! How refreshing it is to see the gophers make big plays on a weekly basis on both sides of the ball (and special teams)!

Can't sleep on Purdue though. That's going to be a tough game. Glad it's at home. Illinois won't be a gimme either. We get through those games, let's face it, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Ohio State are not juggernauts! Things are looking very good for the gophers to play on new years day!

At the very least it is nice for once to see the Gophers take advantage of an almost historically terrible Big 10.

Its possible the gophers bring home the jug, the axe and Floyd all in the same year. I'm not predicting it but its a decent chance all these teams are terrible. The gophers have a good defense which should keep them in most games.

The Gophers are just the best of a mediocre to terrible group of teams.

Do not print your Rose Bowl tickets yet.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
