No dish

So my son was going to let me piggy back off his Direct TV. Thought I was all set. He said they told him we'd have to watch the same thing at the same time. What do guys do ? Dish has a pay as you go, $44 a month. I think not. This will be my first year with a wheel house. I'll be mostly up at LOW.There's probably no way to pick up channels with any kind of antenna? Is there a good way to watch TV while up North ?

Have your son get a extra reciver box from Dish. They are $6.00 per month. Then put a dish at your house and on the fish house. Just unplug the reciver and take it with to the lake. You can watch any channel you want, don't matter what he's watching. Now you have Dish at home and away.

He told them he just wanted a extra receiver. And it was only going to be $6-7. They said we'd have to watch the same things@ same time. I can't have a dish @ my house no signal too many trees too high. My son has Direct. I have a direct dish. If Lake Nebagamon would not have just got cable I'd be cutting trees.

If you have two receivers you don't have to watch the same channel. If they told him you have to watch the same channel they were wrong, or there was a misunderstanding that maybe he wanted to hook two tv's to an existing receiver. I am sure there are thousands of people doing what you want to do with no problems.

Like he said, DTV rep your son talked to is wrong, I and thousands of others have been doing what you want to do for a long time. Call DTV and ask them again, tell them it's for the bedroom. The only way you would have to watch the same program as your son would be if you put a splitter in the cable between the DTV box and the TV's, then you will be watching what ever the single box is tuned to.

FHFO - If you have a DTV dish as stated above, have your son order an extra non-HD receiver (It is $5/mo). Hook that up to your dish and you're off to the races.

I have an Ice Castle with the 18" Winegard round dish. I leave the receiver in there year round.

Yes, it's a pain in the rear getting the dish dialed in each time, but, search on here for directions (there is a previous thread with great line-by line "how-to") and practice it in a parking lot this fall.

Any other solution will cost you money and I personally would be quite skeptical of the tripod set up.

You got a dish that will handle 4 receivers. If it's the 18 in round one any of the old Direct TV standard def will work.

I get like 22 channels while on LOW with a digital antenna. Most are either children's stuff or NPR type stuff though.

Interesting, I got an app on my phone and you put the zip code in and it tells you what stations are available and it said PBS out of Turtle River was the only one like channels 9.1 to maybe 9.6 and that was a very weak signal. I thought it was strange that Baudette wouldn't get more then that.

The Antenna is near Williams if I recall, I know at our place at Rocky Point had all 3 network channels, I have not rescanned in a longtime.

We stay at Long Point a few times a year and the Williams tower is the closest to us. We get zero cell phone service and very poor tv at the resort. .

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
