Rogers Resort

Portavilla

Recommended Posts

Today a couple of owners of Portavilla and the owners of Red Door Resort on Mille Lacs bought Rogers Resort from the Barthels, Jerry and Joni will be helping with the transition over the next couple years.

I have enjoyed working with Jerry & Joni over the last seven years and wish them the best with this new chapter in their lives, we are very fortunate to have learned from them.

We also look forward to working with the Barthel's with their new venture and our partnership with the owners of Red Door Resort.

Best of luck in your new venture Chris. If you operate the resort like the fish house rental business, you will be in great shape.

What changes are going to happen you think? Or will it stay the same.

18 inch Crappie,

That's a fair question. We are having our 2 Qtr meeting on this July 13th so I will post these decisions made by the group the following Tuesday. We built Portavilla off our guests requests and needs and that worked very well for us, what I would like to know before we get together for our meeting is what would guests of the resort like to see as changes or kept the same. This is also a fair question so let's keep it clean boys & keep it progressive.

For the few times I have been there, I would think if you run the resort like the ice house rental business with the same great customer support, your group will be good to go.

Congrats Chris.

I'm sure the resort will continue to thrive on the south side.

Full service restaurant. It would be nice to have more than one show in town.

The restaurant has been underway with the equipment arriving in a couple of weeks. The bar has been getting its makeover with pop dispensers and the like. We put in a new inventory control system that notifies my phone if we are running low on beer, propane and the like. Getting wifi hard wired in and installing new communication equipment that ties the lake, resort and office together. We are also going to try getting web cams up for our HSOforum, this would be nice for summer conditions also. The launch boat will be arriving soon so we have it for next summer. The war room should be finished in the next couple of weeks, this is where the resort, outfitters and guides get together and discuss road direction, discuss issues and the like. Up to date tackle inventory will arrive shortly that was selected by our guests and guides.

Portavilla is building its houses and working on plow equipment and the like. The resort outfitters at starting to gather and prepare for the hardwater season, they have made adjustments to there fleets also. Soon ground troops will arrive and all support services should be in place. The Barthels have a new business taking care of private fish houses and provide a variety of options with this service.

I don't know, this save the plant thing looks like a money maker, for someone! 🫤 Where do you think electric prices are going to go when they have the monopoly for everything that moves! 🙄

Nice!   It would be great if they had some kind of brake, so you don't end up on your neighbors YouTube video going down the driveway! 😆

Last month I went searching online for a trailer jack with pneumatic tires. Instead I found the video below showing a relatively quick and easy upgrade to your existing jack:     It's worked pretty well. I definitely had to mess around with finding the right combination of spacers, washers, and locknut pressure that wouldn't bind up the wheels. However, it is a pretty sweet setup and allows me much better control. We live at the end of a half-alley. My garage faces the end so when I need to hook my boat up to the truck, I have to pull it out into my driveway and then swivel it 180 degrees to face towards the street. The handle is what really makes the difference and now the trailer jack wheels don't slide on the asphalt. Has anyone else done this conversion?

I've got a pile of crawlers ready to go - a nice side benefit of all the rain in the metro lately.   At the very least, I hope that the remaining trappers are making some better money off of the higher prices. I would think that it would be a great way for local kids to make some cash. I can see why it wouldn't make for a great way to make a living as an adult.

Went out yesterday with the sunshine. I did find crappies in the shallows on a darker stained lake with Temps at 58 degrees. They had no interest in my baits

That's part of it.  Several recent years of drought have definitely played a role.   There's other factors too.  MN does not allow importation of live bait from other states either.  That really affects the amount of golden shiners available, most of which are not trapped here.  In other words, demand exceeds supply.   Lots of bait trappers and dealers have simply hung it up in recent years.  Its hard work for not much money.  The two nearest me are both done as of last October.  They both told me its just not worth it anymore.  One of them had been there for 45 years.   My advice would be to learn how to effectively fish with artificial lures more often.  I've slowly weened myself off the use of live bait nowadays.

Think the Free crawlers in the back yard are going to take a hit this summer! 🤭

Correction, rainbow minnows are at least 75 cents each, and leeches are $60 per pound. lol

Their coming! Was poking around southern center mn last Friday and found about 20 on a hill side, all to small to pick yet.  Spots on the GPS! 🤗
