Wild's Future - Offseason

I know its early, but where does everyone see the Wild going this offseason?

Moulson Resigned?

Bryz/Backs/Harding situation?

Zucker/Fontaine?

How much more improvement can we expect to see from Granlund next year?

Is Yeo our coach next year. If not, then who is?

I would like to see Moulson back. I can see with some time that chemistry could develop with koivu or a few others.

I say get rid of zucker. Other than speed I am not impressed with his game. I see his upside much lower than haula or even Fontaine.

The goalie thing will be an interesting one. With backs from hurt and if he remains hurt that handcuffs them like heatley did last year. Harding, man I am pulling for the guy to come back but you hear absolutely nothing about that situation so that isn't a good sign.

I just can't get over how much granlund has progressed this year. Hopefully coyle makes a similar jump next year. He started well but then got hurt.

I think Yeo is back unless there is an epic collapse down the stretch.

I think Yoe is back, I am getting tired of the constant line changes. Haula is playing great, Granland should be ok unless teams start pounding him. Physical play is what hurt the wild. Trade Zucker for 1 or more draft picks, sign Moulson and McCormick, Heatley gone, and hope for the best with the goalie situation. Also a tough D man.

I like haula's game but all this hype about him makes me laugh a little. He is playing on the 4th line and is not playing against top lines like he would be were he moved up on a better line. It would be interesting to see how he will do given the chance. Until then I will wait to make my mind up about him. Moulson hasn't impressed me much yet. I have seen where he isn't used to Yeo's system and has gone to the wrong spot, I assume because the system he is used to called for him to be somewhere else. Hopefully he gets it figured out sooner than later. If he doesn't gel soon let him move on at the end of the year and move to sign Vanek.

I think the excitement around him is the fact that Brodziak has been terrible this year. Haula also find a way to impress with limited minutes while not scoring a lot, just that he is noticeable and young gets people fired up. Realistically he might not be more than a 3rd line center with some offence, which is exactly what we need. However one can't help but wonder if he could be something better.

I will try my best Fly

If we can keep Moulson or sign Vanek I'm cool with either move, sounds like the cap won't be as high as projected so both probably isn't an option no matter how much fun that would be. Moulson can product on cheaper contract, Vanek is an elite talent so any time you can grab one of those you do it.

No clue what to do with our goalies, Bryz is likely gone. Unless something major happens we likely roll with Kuemper/Hards/Backs and hope for the best. Would love to see Harding come back but if he missed a big part for a 3rd season in a row I don't know if the team has a choice, you can't really deal with that kind of uncertainty year after year. I think we are stuck with Backs, just hope he can get healthy and contribute in a backup role.

Love Fontaine on a 3rd or 4th line role, he can also move up for injuries. Once heatley is out of the way he should see more time. McCormick is a UFA too so who knows what happens there. Not sure what to do about Zucker, nice to have him as a call up and you never know when he might turn a corner. Worst case you trade him for picks or D help.

If Granlund Parise and Pommers keep doing what they are doing I don't see any reason Granlund isn't close to a point per game. I also suspect his goal scoring will improve, not a ton but if he can get close to 20 goal and pile of assists we are in good shape. If we even see small steps forward by Nino and Coyle too we will be in good shape.

Yoe, I'm fine with him, save for 2 or 3 coaches I think every fan base in the world hates their coach or think someone else could do a better job. Yoe may not be an elite coach but I don't know that he is holding us back either. Sometimes coaching can make a big difference but sometimes the players make the coach, hard to say what we have here. Not going to cry a river if they dump him either.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
