Huge Paddlefish/Sturgeon/Saugers

Recommended Posts

I'm guessing the sauger on the right came out of some deep water, holy bug eyes batman!

70 feet is where we were catching them

Every fish caught and released dies when you fish the scour hole, yeah they are there and easy to catch but theres fish elsewhere you just have to look for them.Hate seeing fish die for no reason,Ive seen alot of little dink floaters downstream that are the future of the population. full-47240-43538-20140315_002418.jpg

These fish were all caught not in the scour hole, the 24" was released and weighed close to 6lbs.When I say scour hole I mean directly below the dam in deep water over 30 feet. All these were caught in under 20feet some in less then 10feet.

Great fish guys! Those paddlefish are cool!

I was down there last weekend. COLD! It was only the 3rd time I've been to Red Wing for spring walleye/sauger fishing with about the same result. Meh...

I don't know what it was about our boat but we struggled to pull in a limit of keepers. The guy I went with has pretty much been a lifer down there and boated 2 10#s the weekend before. We fished most of the same stuff, the same way and nada. Others around us were getting some and it looked like they were doing the same things as us. confused It was one of his toughest trips ever.

The only things I wish we would've done more of were: fish slower and shallower. We did resort to the scour hole to pick up some but my sentiments were about the same as expl on fishing there. I did keep an eye out for floaters downstream and how often the eagles were picking up fish. I have to say, I thought it would be worse than what I witnessed.

Even though we were having a tough go of it, I didn't wanna quit come Sunday.

If you fish the scour hole, please keep everything you catch. It's dead anyway.

Or, better yet, fish shallower, there are TONS of fish shallow.

Right now the water is still pretty clear and best part of the bite has been during low light and after dark. Been on the river every weekend for the last several weeks and been getting 16-18" walleyes in 6-12' on blades. Haven't stuck a big one yet, but I'll be on the water again Saturday afternoon well into the night.

Couldn't agree more. I went out for 2 hours yesterday and caught 4 walleye between 15" and 22" in water less than 20'.
