Dang wind kept me off the lake, and id imagine most everyone else. Finally made it to my house on 4 mile via Appeldorn's "Billy goat path"

I thought you all might enjoy the video of the trip I made

SkunkedAgain

We were one of the groups trying to get out from the Wharf on Friday, but they couldn't get the roads plowed. The west side of the lake was much better and we got a sleeper there instead. Of course, the fishing was still terrible no matter what side we were on but less wind and more open roads!

Nice video

That is as close as I got to my shack all weekend, atleast it is still above the ice I guess. I squatted in other shacks all weekend. never fished and nearly got alcohol poisoning. Great end to the year... frown

Haha I didn't stop to pee. I walked out to give perspective the pile is taller than my head. I suppose that what I looks like though!

I was out on 4 mile, drove all the way out but the road didn't go to my house. I tried all those different driveways hoping one lead to the road to my house but no such luck. so I just ended up stopping on the single lane road (right at 1 min) then I paused the video. I had to hike it 200 feet in dang need waist deep snow to my house. Got it ready to be pulled. Put everything inside in my portable and pulled it back through the snow to the truck. Needless to say I was exhausted.

Try Darren Troseth at 3 rivers fishing adventures.  Fall is sturgeon  time.   He also specializes in catfish with a shot at a trophy.

No doubt @papadarv!  They’re really good at it too.  The small family flocks have joined together where I’ve been seeing geese and now number 50+ typically.   We saw some geese and a few ducks today but didn’t shoot any.  We didn’t find anything worth setting up on.  Pretty amazing how slim the duck population is up here.  The biggest flock I’ve seen, including the drive up, numbered 5 birds.  It’s been mostly random singles and pairs.   The flooding up here has been amazing too.  Something like 10 inches in 25 hours.  Roads are flooded and the ditches are raging rivers.  The downstream sides of the bigger culverts look like power plant discharges.   We’re considering other options for tomorrow.

Second flock this morning. They seem to find safe feeding grounds when the guns start popping.

Chance of lightning....  haha.  When will it stop?!  In about an hour.  Let’s load up.

Thanks guys! I have a reply from the recommended guide saying he is too busy in fall (apparently he is a teacher and coach etc...)   I think I will stay couple of days in Monticello and fish the Mississippi River. Any recommendations on spots and accommodations? Also do I need to hire a car?
    • Wanderer
Just settling in for a 4 hour nap before launching the boat on LOW - provided we’re not in the middle of a T-storm.  South winds so that helps.  Rain doesn’t bother me but the chance of lightning does.   Good luck tomorrow.
