I think Borden lake is a go for the gtg .

I just got off the lake and there are a few full size four door trucks on it , the landing parking lot is probably worse than the lake.. The guys that I have been talking too said that the last cold snap really helped freeze up the slush on most of these lakes. If I get time I will scout it a little more before I head home tommorrow

There are a couple of weed islands on the south side, on the west finger and some nice weed lines on the north west side. I typically see guys on the west NW side. I was thinking of heading up this weekend if time allows to check it out for myself.

It is sounding like I am going to be able to make it to this one. I wasn't sure for a while so I hadn't posted yet. Looking forward to seeing everyone there again.

With the snow we got and the time I had I was unable to travel north to Borden. I am going to be in Brainerd next weekend and I will try and hit the lake Sunday on the way home to spear for a few hours. I will report after then.

At this point it is looking like I should be good to go as well. Likely with the the youth in tow.

I have a phone on the bottom of that lake that slipped off my shoulder while trying to get a 30"er out of the water.

Can't seem to get to Borden every time I try something comes up not to mention this weather isn't helping. The ice should be great ,but the snow may impede our travels a bit.

It would be a good idea for someone to make it up there just to see what travel conditions are.

Do we need to start thinking of a plan "B" just in case. If nobody can get around that would put a damper on things.

Unless something goofy comes up I will get up there and check it out this weekend. A plan B is probably not a bad idea.

If we pick something near me I'll make sure we have roads plowed out.

Yes, plan B has been In the works for a couple of weeks, but the first plan is still ago unless travel tells us otherwise. The guy that was going to go with me this past weekend just called and said its a go or this weekend . So I will also be traveling that way again unless something comes up.

I know its hard to rely on the bait store for a source of information up that way so It is best to check it out for our selves. Mj let me know what time you will head that way and maybe I can meet up with you.

There's still some time before the event, but as far who's going is concerned, I am out. My season is done before it even got started. mad Have fun everyone.

Me and Dealer ran up to Borden to check it out. Getting around with four wheel drive trucks is workable. There were a couple blocks on the ice by the islands straight out from the access. We drilled some holes and checked clarity. Water was real clear.

We are in Pequot today lakes and will be most likely spearing Borden tommorrow.

Thanks for checking lake mj and dealer but I'm really surprised you guys didn't spear.

We were just road tripping it. There is a plowed road to the SE end. We didn't see any other paths or many houses. Travel off road isn't much of a problem though. Access has some big snow banks from a local guy busting it open. As long as we don't get a big snow or wind it will be OK.

Last night I step out side of the cabin to use the outdoor facilities and slipped on some ice and took out my Knee .. Good thing there was plenty of snow to ice it down with. it was pretty stiff this morning but we managed to get out on Borden to at least check it out. could hardly walk so we just drove around and check a few places. should be good traveling just about any where on the lake saw one guy moving a couple of perm spear shacks to the little 5 foot grass humps just west of the main plowed road.

The bait store on 169 just North of Princeton called Go north Outdoors should have decoys for us, and I will stop and see if he will get some ready for us.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
