Heads Up on Aqua-Vu Cameras

MNUser

Question

Just a heads up. We have a Aqua-Vu camera MC series. We have had it about a year or so. We paid 400 for it.

There are two little plastic washers that hold the camera to the base that contains the battery compartment. This allows you to change the angle of the camera. One broke completely and the other is cracked.

I spoke with Aqua-Vu and they were willing to replace the camera for 75 and then they came back with 45 dollars. When I look at the camera and the 2mm thick plastic "holder" is no wonder it broke.

Just something to think about if you are thinking of buying an Aqua-Vu. I felt this should be replaced at no cost. 400 dollars is a lot to spend and then be charged 45 more to replace something that has a questionable design.

If anybody from Aqua-Vu is reading this, please respond. I would be interested in hearing your comments.

Ya I just broke mine a couple of weeks ago in about -10ºF weather. No wonder it broke and plus it was my fault. I thought the nut was loosened and it wasn't. I went to pull the camera up to take the battery out and the stupid thing broke.
Now I just took some crazy glue and glued it back together. It works now but I'm also extra careful too.

MNUSER,

We really don't have many break like that it is a very durable Resin material it's not just 2 plastic washers. they are molded to the back plate for the monitor and then the back and front plate are then chemically bonded together. The $45 covers the labor and replacement parts. It's a fair deal. And we don't have many that break in that nature. It's generally if it's really cold and you don't loosen the monitor at all it's going to break at times.

Just back from Cabelas, they have 12 or so of the bottom housing that holds the battery and wrap the cord around. It also has the mounts for the TV for $7.00 ea in the outlet part. Just to let you know

Mine also broke in the same spot. I can not believe that it cost $45 for parts and labor to fix it. If this is so, maybe one needs to take a look at making this part a little differently and how it is assembled.

Is your breaking at the monitor tabs or the tabs on the shuttle? Because those are 2 different beasts. The reason the monitor costs so much is because we have to cut the monitor out of the housing and when doing that you can't salvage the wiring harness. So it requires a new harness, and both the front and back of the monitor housing. This and the labor to do it is why it is $45. We make them so they are waterproof, so they are going to be tough to open up.

Call up customer service again and see what she can do. I'll see if she can do it for a bit less if you still want it fixed.

Mine broke on the monitor tabs. The funny thing is it gets sooooo little use. No more than a total of 15 hours I bet.

What surprises me is it broke. I'm sooooo anal about stuff I drive myself crazy!

I will see if I can swing by sometime but I know I don't want to stick any cash into something I already plunked down 400 dollars for.

I spent less on my trolling motor and it has hundreds of hours on it and never has had a repair, and we are tougher on it....that is for sure!

Mine was also the monitor tabs. I also know what you mean by putting more wear and time on other equipment like my Vexilar and it still works great.

Good idea for the waterproof purpose but for fixing it, I am not sure.

Bump.

Now I broke both sides of my camera.

Took it to Aqua-Vu thinking its under warranty. Nope gotta pay $75.
Anybody else feel this should be under warranty? I do!

Feel free to place your comment.

I've had a couple of things happen to my Aqua view. There was a problem with the cord and I also had a problem with the moniter. They were great about fixing it both times even though the warrenty had expired by the 2nd problem.

My monitor failed about 2 months after the warranty period. I had to pay $75 to have it replaced? It seems like the original should have held up better and AquaView should have extended the warranty to make sure the I was satified. I would have though a $400+ dollar camera would have held up better.

I don't think I will buy another AquaView system in the future, and if I did I would plan on spending additional $$$$ to keep it working.

As long as the birds don’t fly I am good. I can catch fish through the ice fairly well.

My cousin and I just returned from beautiful Lake Vermilion after 4.5 days of the most spectacular walleye fishing you could ever hope for. Usually our mutual friend joins us but his father passed away and he had to opt out. We arrived late Saturday afternoon and packed things up after our morning outing Wednesday. We stopped at Cabelas on the way up and found them to be sold out of pike suckers. While they had them, they were charging 99 cents each! We then stopped at Harris bait shop and found a help yourself situation that was also out of pike suckers. They sold them while available for 6 for $6! We eventually found them locally for the same price as last year. During our stay, we used pike suckers, rainbow mix, and crawlers. The walleyes hit them all but, I believe, the rainbow mix caught the most, the crawlers were almost as productive, and the pike suckers produced the biggest fish.  We caught them in depths ranging from 13' to 27'. They were in the rocks and in the mud depending on the time of day. We caught walleyes all day every day with 5 o'clock PM to ~7 o'clock PM being optimum for quantity. The weather was absolutely HORRIBLE with high winds and non-stop rain early in the trip. Boat control was very difficult and I struggled to keep our speed around that .4mph to .6mph. Hits were fast and furious but the hit to catch ratio was at best 5 or more hits to one catch . We stuck with the 1oz bottom bouncers, 3 red beads, and a size 2 hook for the big suckers. I found a shorter 3' leader to be most effective. We caught 153 walleyes on our trip and I would bet we had at least 5 times that many hits!. Now, with all that said, we don't feed line to walleyes to help avoid gut hooks and that certainly gives rise to a poor hook-up ratio. We ate fish twice and brought home our limits. Everything else went back. The walleyes ranged in size from ~13" to 26". We caught lots of slot fish and fair numbers of 15"-19" fish. In addition, we caught 10 smallmouth and only one jumbo. Our really big fish were never landed. My cousin had a true giant walleye laying on top of the water right beside the boat and grabbed her by the base of the tail in an attempt to scoop her into the boat. She was having none of that and with a major flop, snapped the leader. We didn't use a net because I forgot it at the dock. Getting old is a bitch. I had two different walleyes(I'm sure) hooked on Tuesday that came off directly below the boat. Both fish I thought were snags when they hit. Anyone who thinks walleyes don't fight have never caught a truly big one. Both fish ran off several yards of line while fighting to get free. Eventually they both succeeded. I would hesitate to say how big I think my cousins fish was that he had beside the boat, but, my wife and I have caught some really big walleyes in Lake Vermilion and I know what a big walleye looks like. That walleye was absolutely enormous.  We've decided to bring my cousin's two sons back up for a short trip a little later on. Hopefully, the walleyes will still be in a feeding frenzy. Lastly, I usually like to include pictures with my posts. I have a big problem this time, I got a new phone and I know nothing about transferring the pictures. That will be remedied when we come back up. In the meantime....... Good Fishing, MarkB🙂

I got some cool jigs this year this a picture from Slab Bait Shop. The 2nd to last photo is one of my jig boxes with them in it. The last photo has some Macula jigs and if your eyes are getting old these are awesome to tie!! I won the auction for the last photo so I got all of the plastics and jigs.

I was shocked to see I was the one that locked it out.  I think I was just made a mod around then, so yeah just clicking buttons!

Blame it on the big fat left finger for clicking on lock. 😄 Or maybe just wanting a new 23-24 season thread?
